Android TV Port

Unread postby GeeBee » Mon Jun 20, 2016 5:16 pm

Hey guys,

I recently bought a Odroid C2 and i'm pretty happy with it, running on Android Lollipop with Kodi (even the Amazon Instant Video App for Germany is working - great!). I just wanted to ask if there are any plans yet to port Android TV to this wonderful device? (Like here: viewtopic.php?f=94&t=15084). I think it would make the board even more HTPC-friendly (especially because of the integrated Cast-Plugin in Android TV, which isn't implemented at all in Standard Android).

Otherwise: Is there some Guide or Documents where I could gather my self knowledge about porting Android TV to this device?

Thanks!

- Sebastian

So, after I did some research on Android TV it looks like that Android TV is only "normal" Android build with a special "TV profile" and some extra Gapps.

Would it be possible to create that special profile and build a image? I already got that sources and I would love to try that, but the Apps aren't ready yet. Maybe somebody of the dev's now how to change that "profile" or what is meant by that. You can read more about it here: https://github.com/opengapps/opengapps/issues/35

Maybe Odroid can push the development a bit more, as the C2 is a promising device for that! The C2 is like perfectly made for that purpose, please support it Odroid! ;)

Ok, I did some progress as I was able to Build the Google specific TV Apps from Open GApps. There is now only one more problem: I am not able to install the *.zip File. Flashfire didn't work at all. The "old" method with extracting the zip and copying each file also didn't work because nowadays in that *.zip file there isn't anymore any system/ directory or something because everything is packed into *.tar.xz tarball. Some help from Odroid here probably? Flashfire didn't worked either.

Edit: Also not working with Odroid Utility through "Install package from storage". It restarted and worked on the package, but after about 40% of progress it just stopped and the Odroid rebooted. After booting it was showing that only 4 app's were installed. :(

It definitely will be a great feature. Android TV port for Raspberry pi 3 seems working. I guess it will be the same kind of work to port Android TV to C2?

I am also looking forward to this port. Do we have an ETA on this port. Or is there any progress update?

There's a Android TV 7.1 image for the Rock64. would it be possible to somehow port that to the C2?

These are totally different SoCs, it would be easier to start from scratch.
