CEC Questions and Issues

Unread postby Raybuntu » Mon Jun 20, 2016 1:45 am

This Thread is for CEC issues, suggestions and questions.
I'd also like to collect a list of working and not working TV models and CEC devices.

If you are reporting a problem please include a dmesg log with CEC debug enabled:

Code: Select all
echo 1 > /sys/class/aocec/dbg_en

Hello Raybuntu,
As explained in the previous thread, I have a problem with CEC when powering off and on my TV.
After booting, the tv recognizes the odroid C2 and I am able to navigate in kodi. After powering off and on the TV, the odroid c2 is not recognized anymore and I am unable to use the remote control.
I use arch linux arm and the kodi package from here: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/kodi-c2-fb/
Libcec si not installed on the system.
The log in attachment corresponds to the following sequence:
- launching kodi
- trying several keypresses on the remote
- powering off the TV
- powering on the TV
- Again some keypresses (not recognized)

Thanks!

There are some weired non standard cec messages coming from the TV. what is your cec setting in boot.ini. you can try cec7 which will not send active source automatically. Then you can manually scan from your TV. Tell me if the issue stays. If it works I might have some ideas. Otherwise I'd suggest using a patched libcec for better compatibility and disable aml cec keyboard mode with cec0 if you have my latest git commits.

Unfortunately, cec7 or cec0 + libcec (from arch repo) doesn't work...
But ssince it works with a cecf after a boot, wouldn't it be be possible to send the active source signal to the tv to "force" the detection.
Do you have such a code/script?

arch repo won't work. you need the patch from gdachs. I'm not sure how uptodate the linux source is in arch. Problematic are the non standard cec messages. The TX of the chip is in a busy state after that. I have no idea whats happening in the chip because I dont have any docs. Only amlogic can say whats wrong.

do you have an avr. can you test without. do you have access to another tv to see if its a faulty chip for some reason.

Will try that, I have a bluray player also connected. Otherwise, just a thought, could reloading the driver work, I have no idea how to do it with a kernel module but any chances?

I'd have to built in a hard reset of the chip through the sysclass device.

Still no joy by removing the bluray player and compiling libcec from gdachs git (from amlogic-cec branch and with amlogic-cec support enabled and from aocec-adapter branch and with aocec-adapter support enabled wasn't sure wich one). Maybe a recompile of kodi...
As for the hard reset, I suppose it is too much to ask for? If so maybe a few pointers as to how I could do that (if you think it has a chance to work).
Thanks anyway

Its the aocec adapter. And you need a kodi compiled with libcec support. I'll look into an option to reset.

+1. I'm having the same problem described above. Samsung F9000 TV model.

Also, the actions assigned to each button are really messy, not being able to access the main options while playback, Back button changes subs language but never goes back and such. Can you point me to directions on how to manually remap the actions for each button?

Thanks for the great work guys

Hello, with libcec from gdachs and a recompile of kodi, cec works as expected 1 out of 10 times (even when powering off and on the TV) no idea why... However, when it's not working, the kodi banner that says connecting to pulse-eight adapter disappears without displaying connected. When it works, the banner shows connected ... Do you have any ideas or do you need another dmesg log?
However, this version of kodi seems less responsive and when killed pass to zombie mode (when cec doesn't work), once again, only a reboot can remedy this...
I seems as you have previously said that the chip is blocked in a state. It still looks like the same problem to me.
Will try with libreelec build to see if it works!

UPDATE:
It is exactly the same with libreelec, sometimes it works and other times, kodi cannot connect to pulse eight adapter...

I saw the same issue before. I guess it was Sony too. Problem is I dont have a Sony TV to get to the root of the problem. I'd have to change a lot on the fly and sometimes try and error to see why the Sony brand is so problematic. I need to find some docs about sonys cec and hdmi implementation

Ok thanks. Just for info I don't know if it helps or not but the tv worked fine with an RPI1 and 2 (libcec+kodi+archlinuxarm) and works on android with the odroid c2.
But as discussed previously, it works from time to time, so hard resetting the CEC component (I guess removing the clock from the chip and enabling it again and follow the same init sequence as in the booting sequence) could be a "quick" and dirty way of coping with the issue (at least not rebooting). You think that would be doable?

did you try just stopping kodi and starting it again. I guess there is some timing issue with the chip. I could adjust it but not without a problematic TV. I have only 2 samsung TV that work like a charm which is not that good for development.

check the other cec issue thread I posted some info about using echo to tx directly with the driver. You can stress the chip a little bit. There is an automatic hard reset if the chip stays in a busy state for too long.

Can you also try to disable Aml cec keyboard with cec0 and only using libcec?

Problem always starts when an interrupt times out then the chip stays in a busy state and important cec commands are not send by libcec. Restarting kodi could help.

Ok, I tried stressing the chip with a loop and this command: echo -n -e "\x1f\x82\x20\x00" > /dev/cec .
The problem is that when the chip is in no_op mode, it is impossible to write to /dev/cec anymore (echo command never returns). As for restarting kodi, it is the same, kodi hangs and becomes a zombie process. It is the same if i use cec-client. I guess the problem is the same: the program tries to write to /dev/cec which is not accessible anymore.
I already put cec0 in my bootargs but I am unsure if my kernel uses your latest commit (use the odroidc2-3.14.y branch from the hardkernel git https://github.com/hardkernel/linux/tre ... dc2-3.14.y).

Nope, no luck running the patched kernel...
I don't know what to do next except waiting! From what you said the solution isn't trivial and need debugging, if it's just a delay to put somewhere in the code, I can test it but otherwise...
Or do you think that HK could do something?

I had to revert 2 commits cause it caused trouble for LG. try to apply them again cause they were for sony.

https://github.com/hardkernel/linux/pul ... 6cb33e9060

https://github.com/hardkernel/linux/pul ... ddedcb5b2d

Maybe the AML keyboard mode will work for you. you can disable libcec in kodi settings.

Hi, I have a Pioneer plasma and when i just installed LE on my Odroid, CEC seemed to work just fine, however after a few minutes in, I would lose the CEC connection. After a reboot it would work again, and then again after a few minutes I would lose the connection. After having rebooted a couple of times, I now get the message "couldn't initialise the CEC-adapter"

I tried debugging but the log uploader also gave me a message: "problem with the log uploader, please check the log" ha.

So yeah, any ideas?

you need to go into the commandline and input:

Code: Select all
dmesg | grep -i cec > CEC.LOG

but you need to enable debug. see first post. then try to reproduce your issue and input the cmd above and upload the file CEC.LOG.

I cannot disable aml_keyboard at the moment because I am on the HK vanilla kernel on arch linux (only the commits you mentioned were added). If you want I can do what you ask on another sd card with the latest libreelec, but the sony commit is not applied on it... If you have an image (or a compiled kernel that can be applied to libreelec), I would be happy to oblige!

So far cannot reproduce with cec-client only, probably something wrong with kodi... Tried to disable every features in CEC adapter parameters in kodi (except enable CEC-adapter of course) -> changes nothing.
Maybe I will try recompiling another time.
So as far as I am aware, yes it works with cec-client!
