what is the latest way to install this on C-2, if above is potentially not a recommended way?

When I try to install open_gapps-arm-5.1-mini-20161026.zip following the instructions from http://codewalkerster.blogspot.kr/2016/06/how-to-install-google-play-store-on.html , I get as far as "Selected package is verified. Do you want to proceed?". I answer Yes and the machine shuts down. When I power it back up, I get the normal startup screen, not the robot animation, and the Play Store has not been installed. I also tried it with https://github.com/opengapps/arm/releases/download/20160923/open_gapps-arm-5.1-nano-20160923.zip with the same result, no play store.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

I'm doing this on a fresh install of selfinstall-odroidc2-eng-s905_5.1.1_master-255-v2.3.img

There will be a log saved I believe in /storage/emulated/0

Should tell us what went wrong.

I can't find a log file (or any file) in /storage/emulated/0 . I have the folders Alarms, Android, DCIM, Download, Movies, Music, Notifications, Pictures, Podcasts, Ringtones and Storage. The Alarms and Notifications folder are empty (as are most of the others).

It would be in the top level, not in a folder.

What about /sdcard

It's there somewhere, I'm not home to check.

I've looked around but can't find anything that looks like a log file. I'm totally new to android so I'm probably not looking in the right place.

In /storage/internal I have the files boot.ini and boot-logo.bmp.gz, and the folders Android and LOST.DIR. I looked through all the sub folders and there are no files in any of them.

So I've spent 3 days trying off and on to install Android and the playstore, so far no success. While the playstore using the "playstore installer" ran on the 3rd attempt and the App exists, it does not actually work.

First launch crashed (I think this is expected)
Second launch set account, crashed Android (reboot)
Third attempt hung
Fourth (rebooted android again), launches, but says no connection, yet browser is fine
Fifth+, simply a blank white screen, this is all I every get no matter how many time I reboot and or restart the application of if really unlucky then the entire device crashes.

I've also tried to simply install from a zip file, but I'm unable to select the zip from the ODRIOD Utility, so that method is not viable.

So simply put I see no way today using the latest ODRIOD Android build to access the playstore, which makes this device worthless as far as Andriod is concerned.

It's random, it's not generally a problem.

What medium is Android running from specifically, make and model card if card?

7wuSpEdE,

Do you have to power the board back on or does is shutdown and boot back up by itself???
If its not booting back up on its own after doing the update from package in storage through the odroid app then there's your problem.
I had the same problem...It was a bad or faulty SD card. I used a different SD card with fresh install and it worked. You can test the new SD
card after install by clicking the power button and selecting reboot. The board should shutdown and boot back up on its own. Then your install
of gapps should work.

I used a SanDisk UHD-1 red/grey card and Android 5.1.1 v2.4 img and then used http://codewalkerster.blogspot.kr/2016/ ... re-on.html instructions to install Google Play Store.

Worked flawlessly.

I'm completely new to odroid and android. This was my first install and I used a microsd card. I pretty much followed this youtube vid. Around 22.08 he talks about installing the google play store. I placed the apk from here https://codewalkerster.blogspot.kr/2015 ... lipop.html onto the sd card connected to my win10 pc. I booted the odroid and found the file in the internal fat storage. After installing that I clicked on the install and clicked the allow forever box. It started to install then i saw a box superuser root denied. Went to the super user log and saw 2 listings for the denial and then 1 for allow. Still was just hanging on install. I delete the apk and went though the process again and it worked. You also have to update to the new google play store before it allows you to install any app.

Hope this helps

I'm using the one that I got from my supplier. That's probably where the problem is. I've been trying to use the odroid utility to update the system but after downloading it does not install it.

it's build number :
5.1.1 odroidc2-eng-s905_5.1.1_master-198 test-keys

Update: I'm trying the update again while leaving odroid utility open. Works! but... now it's stuck on 'starting apps' after a reboot.
Update2: update failed.. needed to flash new system to sdcard, now all works including play store

Correct, click menu (three dots) in upper right side of odroid utility and select flash zip or whatever it says.

I've also spent close to 3 full days as the previous poster and had no luck. And I'm really tired of it.

ODROID C2 is super slow, apps hang and crash!! Totally unusable in this scenario:

My setup is:
1) Kingston 32GB HCI 1 (see http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews ... leId=41066)
2) power from 5v/2A ODROID power adapter (MicroUSB J1 removed)
3) selfinstall-odroidc2-eng-s905_5.1.1_master-293-v3.4.img
4) ARM 5.1 Micro Google Apps from opengapps.org (link https://codewalkerster.blogspot.ca/2016 ... re-on.html)

I've also tried
5) selfinstall-odroidc2-eng-s905_6.0.1_master-42-v2.4.img
6) ARM 6.1 Pico Google Apps from opengapps.org

Was it okay before installing the Gapps?
How long time did it take to open the Play store from cold booting?
On my Samsung Evo-plus 32GB, it took around 1 minutes or slightly less.
Full booting took about 45 seconds.

Before installing Gapps it was working, however, not fast, Broswer would take 30-40 seconds to load page and it would crash at times. So I'd rule that as "not working".

I did more testing today with different SD Card; and now I am convinced the problem is with SD Card. Here is the result:

1) Kingston 32GB UHS-I DOES NOT WORK. I've tried two brand new 32GB of this card both don't work. Card details here: http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews ... leId=41066
2) Kingston 8GB UHS-I also doesn't work.
3) SP 16GB HC class 10 work well with 5.1.1 and Gapps (very fast which is surprising since this is only Class 10 card).

Is there some system level setting that needs to be enabled/disabled to support the Kingston 32GB UHS-I card types????

Thanks.

Slow 4K IOPS could cause the serious slowness.
4k random read and write speeds are 10x more important than sequential transfers when running an OS on flash storage. It is the main reason why eMMC exists.
Measure the 4K IOPS performance of your different cards.
Refer this link too.

Is there a low level way (dmesg logs), tool to check what's actually causing slowness with the Kingston card I have?
Because based on the card specification and tests preformed online it can do well at random reads/writes see https://havecamerawilltravel.com/photog ... rosd-cards the SDCA10/32GB is my card.

Run any iops test.

It isn't about speed in reading or writing for Android to be fast, it's how many input/output operations per second the card can perform.

I'm getting the same slow down after installing gapps package. I used the micro, I don't have store crashes but other apps are so bogged down that they ask to force close or wait. At moments it can be quite peppy but when apps are updating is time to go get a sandwich.

For those of you attempting to install Open GApps to a ODroid C2 with an SD card.

It would seem that the process that the ODroid app uses to reboot the C2 doesn't flush the file system before reboot. Since the file systems are mounted asynchronous, any data in cache will be lost when the app issues the hard reboot. A simple fix to this within the app would be to call a "sync" before issuing the hard reboot command. My next educated guess is that the reason this works at all with the eMMC flash cards is that the cards are just fast enough to write the data out before the hard reboot command is issued.

The way to get around this problem until the ODroid app changes how it issues the reboot command: You'll want to remount the file systems using the "sync" option before using the ODroid app to do updates/installs.

This is from memory, I'm not sitting in front of the ODroid at the moment. Open the terminal emulator, then do the following.

su -
mount -o remount,sync,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 /cache
mount -o remount,sync,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p4 /data

Then, go about the upgrade/install process. The ODroid will now reboot properly (instead of just halting cold) and will update/install as expected. After the reboot, the file systems will mount back in their normal asynchronous state.

You will need to do this EACH time you do an update or install using the ODroid utility.

Thank You

May this be related to a lot of troubles I have after installing the open gapps?

Shortly after installing it, the infamous "gapps services has stopped" appears very often. When this happens, the only solution to get the system stable is to restart. Unfortunately, after restarting I will see the message again after a few minutes.

No matter how many times I reinstall Android, this always happen if I try the open gapps. I have been forced to not use it anymore, which is really a pity.

How to install Google Play Store on XU4 with Android 4.4.4 v6.0?
I downloaded the open_gapps-arm-4.4-pico zip, but how to install it? (Android is rather weird to me. :o )

Also, I am confused about all these Android versions? Odroid wiki seems to claim Android 4.4.4 v6.0 is the latest, but on the forum there are discussions about newer versions (7.xx or 8.xx). Whis one to use?

I downloaded the open_gapps-arm-4.4-pico zip, but how to install it? (Android is rather weird to me. :o )

Also, I am confused about all these Android versions? Odroid wiki seems to claim Android 4.4.4 v6.0 is the latest, but on the forum there are discussions about newer versions (7.xx or 8.xx). Whis one to use?
