Reinstalling Android issues

Unread postby jdhanley » Tue Dec 01, 2015 3:14 am

I had Ubuntu installed on my Odroid C1. I decided to give Android another go and I reflashed the drive as follows:

sudo dd if=selfinstall-odroidc-eng-s805_4.4.2_master-391-v2.0.img of=/dev/sdb bs=1M conv=fsync
342+1 records in
342+1 records out
359305592 bytes (359 MB) copied, 33.2714 s, 10.8 MB/s

Then I ran sync a couple of times.

Now when I plug it in, all I get is the Hardkernel splash screen, nothing more.

I've tried reflashing a few times now and it just doesn't want to work.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?

Thanks!

When I look at the contents of the flash drive, I see a directory called Recovery, a zip file called update.zip, chksum_list, and a couple of .apk files.

Did I get the wrong image?

Thanks!

Did you refer this link for flashing?
http://odroid.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id= ... hing_tools

Also note that the first booting may take 10~20minutes due to the self-installation process.
The blue LED should be solid on in the self-installation process.
After that, board will start again automatically and the blue LED must be blinking like heartbeat.

10-20 minutes for the first boot?

Ok, I guess I didn't wait that long. It would be nice to have some sort of status message that tells you that. I did refer to the above link but it doesn't mention 10-20 minutes.

I'll give it another try and wait much longer.

Thanks.

Ok, it's been showing the Hardkernel splash screen for about an hour now. Blue light is solid. Ethernet light is blinking.

Is it really still installing?

20 minutes should be enough.

Which SD card do you use?

Can you try "VERIFY" button on our Win32DiskImager V1.3 if you can access a Windows PC?

A SanDisk Extreme Plus as featured here

Although looking at my card it has a 3 in it.

Is UHS-3 supported by Odroid?

Thanks,
John

C1 is very picky and C1+ has much better SD card compatibility.
Does that SD card run the Ubuntu too?

BTW ,try this Pocket Rocket image and let me know the result.

That image doesn't need the self-installation process.

I took back the card and got a Sandisk UHS-1 instead. Should be very similar to the one you guys sold me.

Flashed it and it's been sitting at the Hardkernel splash screen for about 45 minutes.

I'll try Pocket Rocket image when I have the chance.

Pocket Rocket image boots. Now I get message "Type password to decrypt storage".

What's the password?

Thanks!

Can you try to install it with the SD card you purchased from us?

Ok using original card worked.

Strange though. I powered the unit on, it turned the display off but blue light was blinking. Stayed off for a bit and then came back on to give me some error message.

I tried again and this time when my display turned off I manually hit the power button to power it back on. That's when I saw the Android updater screen and then it worked.

Not sure if the display thing had anything to do with it or if it had anything to do previous install failures. But Android is now working.

Now that I have 2 SD cards I'll install OpenELEC on the other and determine which experience I like better.
