Strange message when unzipping kernel

Unread post by Renegr » Sun Mar 22, 2015 11:39 am

I've downloaded the odroidxu3-3.10.y branch from github, extracted it with UI (no error) and always got errors when building it. Before giving up I'll tried using command line, and here when unzipping I got some very long lines from output of unzip. Instead of showing a file entry it shows a part of the source code and doesn't extract it.

Example:
inflating: linux-odroidxu3-3.10.y/net/ipv6/netfilter/ip6table_mangle.c -> /*^J * IPv6 packet mangling table ... (more code)
symlink error: filename too long.

This symlink error I get 3 times.
drivers/ata/pata_ninja32.c
drivers/video/sis/initdef.h
net/ipv6/netfilter/ip6table_mangle.c

I don't know whether there are more errors, as unzip stops after 3. symlink error.
When I browse the branch within github the archive shows all files and I can also view them. Even when I open the archive with Archive Manager I see the
Is there a known issue with zip/unzip?

*Edit*
Ok, same issue here:
https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/34

And the issue is not fixed, if this one is correct:

Download the source code via "git clone" command.
http://odroid.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id= ... ing_kernel

The compressed source from github has the issue from time to time.

Finally done.
Strange thing is, even if using the same config my kernel now is about 3.2MB large, while the original one is just 2.4MB. Was it compiled with THUMB, optimized for size or do I miss some special compiler options?

And the next issue, I've modified the defines within odroid-fan.c so, that it should still turn with an at least for me undisturbing speed below 60°C. Compiled it and updated zImage.

#define TEMP_LEVEL_0 60
#define FAN_SPEED_0 18

But the fan still behaves as always. So isn't zImage the file where this code is in?

Excuse me, I've already played around with the shell scripts for optimal fan control. But in my understanding odroid-fan.c is the root of this continuous switch on/off of the fan. And I just want to fix the root instead of executing a workaround in form of the script.

My only issue is that the values are not used, which can have 2 causes, first the code is not within zImage or second there is already another script running. (I've used them within a script which worked fine)

Details:
The original temperature levels 57/63/68°C are not usable as the CPU heats up to a little bit above 57°C while in IDLE. And if doing something it jumps very fast above 68°C.

So, just to give the solution to my problem.
Within odroid_fan.c already fan speeds and temperature levels are parsed from the files /sys/devices/odroid_fan.14/fan_speeds and /sys/devices/odroid_fan.14/temp_levels. For my needs it is enough to modify those 2 files and the fan is fine now without any shell scripts.
