N2 plus all USB ports dead please advise

Post by cyphertwo »

Hi, I purchased the N2+ from the official UK reseller. I asked them and they said they cannot help, as its been a year I think.

The device boots on, internal remote works. No USB device is recognised.

I had read reports of USB problems in the past but the odroid was a great device. Can I fix it?

Can you show us "lsusb" and "lsusb -t" outputs via SSH session console?

You've helped with the commands before, but how do I do this
? I'm not too proficient.

First of all, which OS do you run, and where did you get the image?
If you run Linux, these commands must be typed into a terminal. On Android, I'm not sure, but if there is a terminal, they should work too.

On Android you generally use adb shell.

Sorry for the delay. I just didn't want to get back to it as it seems it is dead.

I had been using coreelec, with rare instances of Android.

Thing is, even on another image the USB won't respond, so how do I enter the terminal command?

Internal basic remote works.

Maybe I've missed something.

Again, it's a shame because these devices when working, are very good.

You can have a working USB 2.0 host port temporarily via micro-USB port with an otg-to-host adapter something like this.

same misfortune has just hit my n2+ (rev0.5 20200406). this makes me wonder if later revisions are free from this flaw, as I got two more n2's serving Home Assistant.
any repair options?

Here is the N2 PCB revision history. There were two minor changes for the USB hub controller IC related circuitry since 2021 to reduce the relevant issue.

Look into lsusb output first to determine if you have a USB power circuit issue or USB hub controller issue.
If you can find "05e3:061x" USB ID in the output, you can try this repair guide.

In that case, your production batch number is 2102 on PCB rev0.5 20200406.
To lower the electrical stress to the GL3523 hub controller, the GL3523 power source has changed to 5V from 3.3V by using internal regulator. Mount a zero ohm resistor between the source and drain of Q1 instead of the FET.
As a negative side effect, the PWR red LED does dimly turn on even when the system turns off. This issue appears with the production batch of EL2102 only.
BTW, what was the output from lsusb command on terminal?
