No sound on images except coreelec

Post by cyphertwo »

Hi,

I purchased an N2 + last year. Coreelec worked fine, but an android build, Slash TV on an Emmc card gave me no audio. One build did but no others.

I contacted odroid UK who advised the forums. I did make a thread on Slash TV issues, but never resolved it.

This week I have tried to get batocera, emuelec and the odroid android build working. All on eMMC and none gave me audio. On the standard android after switching sound output around and back to hdmi I had audio for like 10 minutes. I could not repeat this, tried many times.

I have tried different leads, tried different TV inputs. Tried the line out jack.

I only consistently get sound out from an SD card with coreelec.

Did I get a faulty board, it makes no sense. Any advice appreciated. I like the performance of the N2 and need another one but it makes no sense why I am getting these issues since day 1.

Try installing our latest Android image into your eMMC to narrow down root causes.

I already have. That image is on my eMMC. I had audio for a few minutes after switching audio output options, but then no audio.

I don't know what else to do to narrow down the cause.

Since CoreELEC has no such issue, you don't have a hardware issue on your board certainly.

What is brand/model name of your TV?
Do you use CEC or ARC feature?

Also try this official Ubuntu OS image.

I use the normal hdmi modes, and tried turning CEC off, too.

The thing is, I have never had this issue with any other device, pc or whatever.

It's an older Samsung full HD model.

If it isn't the board, why does one build of Slash TV work fine, but no other builds. Nobody else has experienced this issue, or it would have been mentioned.

I will try the Ubuntu image later, thank you.

Capture logcat and dmesg outputs on the Android Terminal app when the HDMI sound output disappeared.
Also try to force the HDMI output resolution to 1920x1080 via ODROID Settings app.

OK, sorry to ask but is there a page showing how to do the above, the logging.

Also note line out audio is not there either, so doubt it's solely the TV.

Hi, why was this moved to Android subforum, when it is an issue with the Linux image too, suggesting it's more than just Android?

The captures and logs you want, do you have a guide or faq for that?

I moved this topic to Android sub-forum to show your logs to Android developers.
It should be more efficient for finding root causes.

Just type "logcat" and "dmesg" on the Android terminal app.

I ran the commands you suggested, but had to share via camera. Sorry they are not screen grabs or if the images are too large.

The outputs are too short and there is not enough information.
Can you grab the whole outputs with mouse and paste it to a forum reply?

I'll do that later but I figured out something. I'll try to explain simply.

On the official android build, I got audio by switching between outputs etc but eventually figured out connecting my Ps4 control pad completely kills audio.
When I unplug the pad audio returns.

Also, before I played a music file I had no notification sounds or anything. I also switched off CEC which may have helped.

This is quite a problem, is it trying to charge the pad?

Again, the one build of Slash TV used to work fine.

I have the Bluetooth adapter but have never got the pad to work with it.

And thank you.
