Odroid U3 power

Post by vryy »

Hello

I received an old Odroid U3 from a friend. When I connect the power to micro USB port no led is blinking. Does the U3 receive power from USB or only from the 2.5mm barrel adapter?

Best

I'd guess this is what the barrel socket is for. And you did just check that powering from USB won't work, didn't you. ;)

Here's the product wiki for further reference:

I guess so, I searched and found that Odroid C2 has a switch to use power from USB. Why is not there for U3? Is there a way to hack the board to get power from USB?

Most likely the U3's SOC needs more than 5V 500mA that the C2 can live with. U3's successor, the XU series need about 3A to boot up.
I think that the C2 bypasses the power regulator (and some protections) when powered via USB. Or was it only when powered via GPIO? I don't remember...

U3 needs at least 5V/2A power via DC barrel jack only.
Or, look into the U3 schematics to find other path for alternative power input.
