CoreElec should be in stable version of CoreELEC 19.2-Matrix_rc2
Thanks, let me check if it's the Petitboot issue.

Hello. I'm terribly sorry... I was wrong. I was sure, that I had last version of petitboot, but not. I had 20201020. I update petitboot to 20201222 and issue is solved. Android boot to the system correctly.

Ah...Ok...if it works, fine.
I was a bit sort of panic why it leads to recovery mode. :)

I bought a new LG Oled 4K TV.
Petitboot does not fit the screen properly.
I exited the shell and changed the resolutions individually as follows, but the problem did not improve, the screen size changes, but it does not fit the frame properly.

Code: Select all

fw_setenv hdmimode 2160p60hz
fw_setenv vga 2160p60hz

fw_setenv hdmimode 1080p60hz
fw_setenv vga 1080p60hz

fw_setenv hdmimode 720p60hz
fw_setenv vga 720p60hz

Hi @tobetter
fw_setenv hdmimode 540p60hz
fw_setenv vga 540p60hz

I wanted to set petitboot to this resolution. I was typing without seeing what I was typing, I guess I did something wrong.
In petitboot, the blue led is on directly, the blue led has no heartbeat.

I updated with a uSD card but nothing changed.
There was a command that resets the petitboot, I had to read the whole forum to find this code. I don't remember exactly where.
How do I flash Petitboot?

Edit:

Code: Select all

flash_eraseall /dev/mtd0
flash_eraseall /dev/mtd1
flash_eraseall /dev/mtd2
I flashed SPI, rewrote spi with 20201222 version recovery image.
Now the screen fits perfectly into the frame.
No Android version was working with version 20210510, this problem was fixed when returning to version 20201222.

Dose petitboot read config files to configs itself? like petitboot,timeout=1 in some file in the boot partition of boot device?

It depends which configs are for. Timeout can be changed in the Settings or you can try this with the file petitboot.cfg in the first partition of your SD card and boot the Petitboot.

Code: Select all

[u-boot]
petitboot,timeout=1
overwrite=true
Be aware that once it's applied, you must remove the file or change the value of overwrite=true to false, otherwise it will keep try to overwrite on every booting.

Sorry for late response and glad to know it's been fixed.
The versions after 20201222 are trial versions built for experimental features which may not work for certain features. That's why the latest version is staill 20201222.

I have this same text shifted left text issue on a 65" LG OLED. Petitboot 20201222 was framed correctly with CoreELEC 19.2-Matrix_rc1. The left shift started after updating to 19.2-Matrix_rc2. I did a recovery to Petitboot 20201020, but it was still shifted left. Running on a SD card. I tried a different SD card but no change. Updated back to 20201222 and left it as-is thinking the next CoreELEC update might fix it. Just updated to CoreELEC 19.2-Matrix_rc3, the Petitboot continues to be left shifted. Odroid N2 with SD card. After CoreELEC launches, the resolution is correct for all areas. Using skin Arctic Horizon 0.5.68 and when using Estuary resolution is also correct. Only Petitboot has left shift text.

Hi! What is the proper recovery procedure? I tried to update the petitboot on odroid N2+ with 20201222 and it seems that it failed (as after that i got loop messages on console), and then following https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-n2/os_images/petitboot i tried the recovery (following the same instructions) but i still get:
G12B:BL:6e7c85:2a3b91;FEAT:E0F83180:402000;POC:F;RCY:0;
EMMC:800;NAND:81;SD?:0;SD:0;READ:0;CHK:1F;USB:8;
LOOP:1;EMMC:800;NAND:81;SD?:0;SD:0;READ:0;CHK:1F;USB:8;
....

any idea how can i recover? thanks a lot!

It does not look like your boot select switch is at SPI, did you place the boot select switch to SPI and reconnect the power cable after recovery?

so, the instructions being a little bit confusing, it seems that i tried the recovery with the spiboot-20201222.img instead of spiupdate_odroidn2_20201222.img.xz
so, trying again with the update img written with etcher on the uSD card, and now saving the log of putty i have this:

Code: Select all

so, given that https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-n2/os_images/petitboot is not very clear, i ask for confirmation:
what image is used for recovery? the update one?

Thanks a lot!

L.E. i noticed the "sdio data fail" : are there any tricks to the insertion of sd card? i exclude the incompatibility as earlier, when i first tried the upgrade it worked, and i had on my hdmi monitor the output of clearing, writing and verifying of data ranges

You must flash the image http://ppa.linuxfactory.or.kr/images/pe ... 222.img.xz to SD card and boot with it for recovery. And you have to place the boot select switch to MMC to recovery.

What's the vendor/model of your SD card?

I suggest trying with another SD card UHS-I grade just in case your SD could not be compatible to boot from N2.

Hi Everyone!

I have the following problem... I'm trying to boot Android from emmc but have problem with both stable and the newer 20201222...

The problems are 2,

With stable, android will boot directly into recovery :/

With 20201222, emmc will not be recognized UNLESS I boot with an sd attached. It's very weird, no SD it doesn't detect the emmc, with SD it detects both and I'm able to boot...

Any hints?

I have the following problem... I'm trying to boot Android from emmc but have problem with both stable and the newer 20201222...

The problems are 2,

With stable, android will boot directly into recovery :/

With 20201222, emmc will not be recognized UNLESS I boot with an sd attached. It's very weird, no SD it doesn't detect the emmc, with SD it detects both and I'm able to boot...

Any hints?
What's the version of Android on SD?
And what's the version of "stable" you mean?

Stable I mean 20201020, and the android version is this one: Lineage ATV (Android 10)

Thanks for the info and you have two different problems for two Petitboot versions respectively if my understanding is correct. I think you need to stay with 20201020 due to the SD card issue. But I need to test why ATV does get into the recovery mode. Please let me have several days to test it.

yes! precisely. the stable one boots into recovery, and the latest release only detects my emmc if I also attach an SD cart into the odroid (then it can boot android just fine)

@Tobetter - here's an idea for petitboot - after you parse the attached media, if you don't get any results, why not run the netinstall discovery script and display netboot options automatically?

Hello everyone,

I've just started to overhaul my N2 a bit.

But after updating Petitboot to 20201222 through the shell, it doesn't recognize my eMMC as bootable anymore. I can however provide access to the eMMC for my computer via the shell. And that's how I upgraded CoreELEC to 19.2.
So, same issue as @felipejfc I guess.
The eMMC is loaded with CoreELEC 19.2 and I have yet to choose an Android OS to have on SDXC.

Is there an older version I can go back to to resolve these issues?

Many thanks in advance!

Download the image in the link and copy it to SD card as spiboot.img. New firmware update will start on next power cycle.

Hey @tobetter,

thanks for the img.

I already tried to downgrade to 20201020, resulting in corrupted SPI. I recovered to 20201222 and ran the N2 with eMMC only. Only after rebooting Petitboot recognized a bootpoint on the eMMC. When I put the µSDXC back in it again showed only the µSDXC as bootable.

I'll again try downgrading. Please let me know if I should report back further or if I'm just spamming the thread when posting updates on this one case..

Update: Downgrading failed. img was recognized but Petitboot decided it was up to date so no action was taken. Gonna try the 20201020 recovery again..
20201020 recovery didn't work either. The screen didn't even light up so I have no idea what happened. Blue LED started constantly lighting up, after some 3 to five seconds it started pulsing. Left it for 10 Minutes, rebooted but SPI seems corrupted again.
Will try 20201222 recovery again but will put 20201020 on there as spiboot.img. Although that also didn't work last time I tried.
Just as last time, didn't work.
Seems I'm stuck with 20201222 for now..

Cheers!

Make sure to plug in just the microsd, flip the boot switch to the mmc position and most importantly - reseat the power plug!

Would it be possible to include this change in the petitboot builds? It enables a default option in kboot.conf.
https://github.com/open-power/petitboot ... 21c5056c93
The patch has been and new test image has been uploaded, so please test if this image works with your boot script.
http://ppa.linuxfactory.or.kr/images/pe ... 210510.img

Download the image and copy it as spiboot.img to the first partition of your SD card. The Petitboot on your N2 will read it and start updating. Please let me know if it works or not.
Thanks for including the change. We have tried the new images and now our boot script has a recognized default option with autoboot, which is what we needed.

Thank you for sharing. I have a question. How to revert SPI to original?
I cannot find where is the original image of SPI.

What do you mean by "original"? What image is flash to your SPI now?

I am using petitboot 20201222 on an odroid n2. running pb-update in the shell gives:

E: Invalid update info from http://ppa.linuxfactory.or.kr/images/pe ... dn2/latest

Wrong file/bad link? or am I trying to update incorrectly?

Thanks.

You already have the latest version, so pb-update won't do update. And if you still want to try, please do check if your N2 obtain the IP adress with the command ifconfig and run "udhcpc" when IP address is missing.

Thanks! udhcpc did the trick. now it says Petitboot is up-to-dated. Wasn't sure that 20201222 is the latest.

Now I just have to figure out if I can do a network install of ubuntu. Is there directions for that?

Run "netboot_default" after "udhcpc" in the command line, this will load netboot installer menus and start from the Petitboot main screen.

I could never get petitboot to work when I first bought this N2. When flashing the blue light comes on, stays on and nothing happens. Through mucking around I found that I could boot micro SD from both SPI and EMMC. Did nothing about it, just went with the flow.
My laptop has died in the a, so now I have a fastish SSD I want to use. So I has another go at spiboot.img in the boot petition, switch at spi. Nothing, so I wrote the UPDATE image to a micro sd card and it worked, well it got through the process, it finishes with a #, so I guess it worked. Still cannot get spiboot to work. But go figure, cannot boot micro sd from switch at SPI anymore after update but it boots micro SD from switch at EMMC. I think my spi switch has Portnoys complaint!

You have to remove the power cord after changing switch position, otherwise the switch position is not read.

I had seen you mention that several times through out this thread, and did that, switch definitely rooted. Mean while I have found a how-to in 'how-to and guides' to boot from micro sd and throw to USB drive.
Keep me busy until Hardkernel puts out a AMD R series board with their fastest cpu.

First of all I want to apologize for posting this: viewtopic.php?p=336677#p336677 in the wrong section. I read N instead of H d'oh!

Anyway, the problem doesn't even seem to be related to the N2+, but specific to petitboot, therefore I'll continue here. Well, the problem was somehow solved after several attempts: updating petitboot, erasing flash memory, using the recovery image... until I changed the source of my TV by mistake from HDMI to "tv" (antenna). When I switched back to HDMI... ta-da! It came alive!!

I tried and tried and this is what I have to do, every single time: change source to HDMI, start the N2+, select the boot partition on petitboot, switch to TV, switch back to HDMI. It's not ideal, but it works... I wonder if the HDMI cable is at fault, or the TV itself, unfortunately I can't test with other cables / TVs at the moment. It's weird, because it only happens with SPI / petitboot, not MMC.

Do you have the display issue with the Petitboot or OS? If you have the problem with OS, what's the OS to boot up?

I can see the petitboot screen, select the OS, rescan, exit to the shell… when one OS boots, I see the blank screen, unless I do what I described before.

I tried with several versions of Ubuntu and coreelec. I tried booting with eMMC, SD and external HD. I mixed them in every possible way, the end result is the same. Currently I have Ubuntu 18.04 on the HD and CE 19.2 rc 2 on the eMMC.

Finally, this only happens when I use petitboot: if I move the switch to MMC, regardless of the OS, it works as it should.

For Ubuntu 18.04, try after changing the value of disablehpd as true in the boot.ini and let's see if it enables your display.

20211112

Please do not reflash your SPI flash memory with pb-update or spiboot.img if you do not have any issue using the Petitboot installed to your ODROID-N2/N2Plus.

New version 20211112 has very very minor changes from 20201222, feature wise there is no difference.
ODROID-N2 has new PCB revision since Nov/2021 in which the PCB revision is printed REV 0.6 20210121 and this revision has new SPI flash memory which was not supported in the earlier versions so the new PCB won't be bricked after updating.

Thank you. :)

FYI, the latest version of the Petitboot 20201222 has been updated through pb-update for 3500+ times.

I have Android PIE(64bit) and Coreelec installed on the emmc dualboot, on the memory card I have Ubuntu and Emuelec. When android starts with emmc everything is ok, but when boot on SPI mode(petitboot20211112) android does not see the memory card and other partitions, and file explorer is empty, does not see any directories, but system works. Other systems on SPI boot fine , the problem is only with android on SPI position.

Is the Android on eMMC with CoreELEC and boot fine without the Petitboot?
What's the version of Android and can you share the output of fdisk /dev/mmcblk0 of eMMC?

Also, I do not recommend to install any other OS with Android since Android uses hidden partitions which is not accessible in Linux. eMMC should be dedicated to Android only, and CoreELEC can be installed to USB storage.

Thanks for the quick reply. CoreELEC boot only Pettiboot, Android boot on SPI and on emmc, but on Petitboot there are the above problems. The android version is the latest selfinstall-odroidn2-144-64bit-20210930.img.xz. Here is my fdisk:

I've only had my N2 for a few days, so I'm trying different options. Dualboot on eMMC has a lot of advantages for me. The systems I use most often run on fast eMMC. And it works, there is only problem with booting android via Petitboot.

@ToBetter... thank you for the time you spend getting this working for us. It's much appreciated.

I've got 2 new Odroid N2+s with the new PCB (REV 0.6 20210121), but I'm having a difficult time trying to install the new Petitboot 20211112 image to the SPI on either.
I've flashed the Petitboot image 20211112 to 2 different MicroSD cards, with the same problem. (one of the MicroSD's is brand new)

Procedure:
On Windows 10 I used Balena Etcher to create the Petitboot recovery image 20211112 (spiupdate_odroidn2_20211112.img.xz)
Removed the 128gb eMMC from the N2+
Switched the SPI switch right - to eMMC
Inserted the MicroSD with the Petitboot recovery image 20211112
Insert power
Red light turns on
Blue light turns on for a second, then
Blue light then repeats 2 pulses continuously (same pulse pattern when successfully booting eMMC to Ubuntu)
Screen never syncs (hdmi to DVI) nor shows a command prompt
- To see if it's a screen sync issue I attempted to SSH in, but it's immediately refused.

I tried flashing the Petitboot recovery image 20211112 (spiupdate_odroidn2_20211112.img.xz) to the eMMC to see if I could get it to boot that way, but got the same result.

I reflashed the eMMC back to Linux/Ubuntu, rebooted the eMMC successfully back to Ubuntu and attempted to install Balena Etcher to try flash the MicroSD from Linux to see if that would have any better result, but having issues getting Etcher running via package install or AppImage.

Any ideas ? - my end goal is to get Debian 11 running.
