XU4 ubuntu 18.04 can't boot after reboot [Resolved]

Post by Fredlebina »

Hello,

After a weekend to understand how to work with an XU4, I have successfully flash and start with the ubuntu-18.04.3-4.14-mate-odroid-xu4-20190929.img.xz (With 16.04 and 20.04, all my tests was unsuccessfull).
I have 3 XU4 and 2 different SD card, one 8Go and one 64Go. With both I made the following:
- Flash the image
- Start Ubuntu Mate
- Change password
- Change resolution
- Cancel automatic updates
- Configure timezone to Europe/Paris
- Configure the keyboard to French
- Use the following commands
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
sudo apt dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install firfox
sudo apt-get install xrdp
sudo reboot

With the 64Go SD card, I was able to restart few times successfully and use remote access with XRDP but with the 8Go, I was not able to reboot.
After few reboot with the 64Go card and no change, I have now the same issue than the 8Go card and with the 3 XU4.

The issue is that the XU4 always reboot just after the line
EXT4-fs (mmcblk1p2): re-mounted. Opts: errors=remount-ro

I can mount the cards on my personal linux computer and check the files but I see no error in the log files in /var/log (not sure to have check correct log files).
I tried to boot with and without ethernet cable, USB mouse and keyboard and HDMI, it's the same.

Do you have an idea where I can investigate ?

EDIT:
I disconnected my personnal linux computer and sart again my XU4 one by one. Both have worked.
I tried to reboot them and sometime they reboot at the same level indicated above and sometime, they boot successfully (more often than before).
Very strange for me. I continue to investigate.

Make sure that your micro-SD cards are UHS-1 grade.
Let us know brand and model names.

The 64Go SD Card is a Cibox micro SDXC 1 v10.
The 8Go SD card is a Kingstick and I have a 10 print on it but no other information (it's an old card from an old phone).

This morning, I tried again and the 64Go worked perfectly.
The 8Go reboot one time at the same level and worked after first reboot.

I think my 8Go SD card is not stable and I think that the odroid ethernet configuration was in conflict with my personal linux computer ethernet configuration even if I don't know why.

Cibox micro SDXC 1 v10 seems to be a UHS-1 class and it should work.
But, the old one is not a UHS-1 class.

Thank you for this information.
Also, as soon as I power on my personal ubuntu computer, I have issue to start Odroid but no issue when my computer is off.

Then I think I have my issues resolved.
1/ Network issue I have to resolve by myself
2/ Change the 8Go card by a UHS-1 class

Thanks for the help
