Odroid N2+ all 4 USB ports stopped working

Post by coendeurloo »

I've had an ODROID N2+ for quite some time now, and I really liked it, so I bought another one for a friend as a gift.

However, he seemed to have some problems with it all of a sudden. After checking some stuff, it turns out that none of the 4 USB ports on his N2+ are working anymore. Connecting a USB mouse to any of the ports didn't make a difference either. I brought his machine home with me, tried his USB disk on my own N2+ and it was immediately recognized, so I knew for sure it wasn't the disk. I have tried reinstalling Coreelec on his machine, and even updating to the latest 19.2 version but it doesn't make a difference unfortunately.

Edit: an image of the board itself:

According to your log file, the USB hub controller IC (GL3523) seemed to be damaged by uncertain electrical shock unfortunately.
Two way shipping cost to Korea for repairing might be very expensive.

Or, use the USB 2.0 OTG port with a micro-USB to Host cable something like this if your friend doesn't need USB 3.0 super-speed.

I'm actually in the same boat on this, though the issue is entirely my fault since I accidentally dropped a 3.5mm audio cable while I was plugging it into the device and the plug landed right in the 40 pin header (OOPS!!!). I'm actually looking at replacing the chip itself, but it looks like the chip itself is programmable and I'm not sure if it requires any initial programming before it will even function or where the firmware comes from.

That sounds extremely random, good luck with that!

As you can see the N2+ schematics page 19/41, the hub controller firmware is written in an external flash memory (IS25LQ512B).

If you can source and replace the GL3523 IC, it should work probably.

I have the same issue and found a 10 lot of GL3523-QFN76 on aliexpress for $15, which I ordered. I'll send you each a couple, if you want to try this out. They seem to be coming on a dirigeable from the Moon and might not be here for a month.

I have the exact same problem as this one. Recently all of the rear USB 3.0 ports suddenly stopped working. The front micro USB still works. OS is N2+ official Android.

Did you ever get them? I ordered some myself, but received the QFN88 version instead :(
