Help with Docker & Portainer on Coreelec

Post by coendeurloo »

I'm running Coreelec, and installed Docker plus the other required stuff via the Coreelec repository, and I'm also running Portainer, because I'm not very skilled with linux, a GUI based environment to install docker programs sounds like a dream come true.

So i see all the programs at the 'App templates' (after I've added https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Qball ... plate.json as the app templates URL) and it all seems very easy. Everything seems to install just fine except...it doesn't show up when I type in the url. I have a feeling this has to do with the network settings.

So, what to do with the 'Networks' settings? I know i have to add a new network with the type 'bridge', but what do i put there? the local IP of my ODROID on the network? Where do I find the info like subnet and gateway? Why is this even needed?

Go to advanced when you are looking at a container to install then select "show advanced options" then delete the entries and let the paths be handled automatically.

You shouldn't have to do anything else.

I tried that with a couple of apps:

However none of these urls with those ip adresses and port numbers seem to work, for instance http://172.17.0.4:4040/ for booksonic.

You go to the N2 local address not those, if your N2 is 192.168.1.88 and the container is using port 60 then go to 192.168.1.88:60

That's strange. I reinstalled portainer, left everything as it is, except for the https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Qball ... plate.json link to get the app templates, and it still won't show anything. It doesn't give any errors. Just to be sure, when setting up portainer, is this the right setting to start with?

Well that's weird, I tried Headphones and I saw the interface! So I thought yeah, progress! Maybe only some work. Then I tried some other packages, those didn't work, and when I tried to access the Headphones web gui at the same address again, it wasn't reachable anymore.

Edit: I can now access headphones (I have to use http instead of https). Could it be that if youre already running the package as a normal addon from a repository in kodi, it can not run in portainer for a second time, even though the port number is different?

I'm not sure, what I would do is not use the add-on and install portainer manually, add the repos, install the containers as I stated above.

Are you sure you are using a repo with ARM64 containers?

*Edit*
You are using the same URL I'm using so it's not that:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Qball ... plate.json

I've installed docker and portainer etc from the linxserver.io repo that was in the Coreelec repo.

I'm running Coreelec 9.2.7.

I don't know what the issue is, I just installed headphones from within portainer and went to the address of my N2+ 192.168.1.19 with the headphones port of 8181 and it's working.

I'm running the latest CoreELEC 19.2 nightly.

I'm almost thinking about making a good backup of the programs I'm currently using as a normal addon, updating Coreelec to the latest version and try again from scratch using Portainer only. Is the latest Coreelec version compatible with the N2+?

Edit: Yeah Headphones was doing fine as well here, it's just the programs I already had installed through another repo that don't seems to work (in this case Sonarr, Radarr, Bazarr through the outdated Thoradia repo, this is why I want to go to Portainer in the first place). I want to confirm that they are working through portainer before making the step though.

Is there any reason why the normal Coreelec version is still at 9.2.7 for the Odroid 2+? I understand I'll have to reinstall some addons etc, but basically portainer and the normal addons do work on this latest version right?

I'm not able to help further currently, I've had to go out of town and don't know when I will return.

Perhaps someone else will have some insight.

Anyone else who might have a valuable insight on this? Or even just a way to troubleshoot it?

The only major difference I see is I'm running a newer version of CoreELEC

This seems to be relevant (everything is working now) :)

However, in the meantime I also noted that you can not change the port numbers to something custom. Maybe it works for some apps but the containers web gui just won't load when you customise the port numbers in my case. It's no big problem, one app was using kodi's own 8080 port so I just changed kodi's port...but it seems kind of weird that you can not change the port number even though it's given as an option.
