[SOLVED] Odroid HC1 strange bug with SSD disk

Post by matrobi »

Hello,

My Odroid HC1 has been working for years with a SSD disk Crucial MX500 (500GB) but when I try to change it for a EMTEC X150 (960GB) the board doesn't boot anymore.
- with the new SSD the board doesnt boot, the blue LED is off.
- if I put back the old SSD it still doesn't boot, blue LED off.
- I formatted the SD card, reinstalled Linux and then everything worked fine again.
- so I tried again to change the old SSD for the new one and again it doesnt boot, the blue LED is off.
- tried to put back the old SSD but it still doesn't boot, blue LED off.

Maybe there is a capacity limit for the SSD disks and 960GB is too much ? But then why would it make the board non bootable ?

Both disks are marked SATA 6Gb/s
the old one : 5V 1.7A
the new one : 5V 1.0A

We tested 1,2,4 and 5 TB 2.5inch HDDs on HC1 and up to 14TB 3.5inch HDD on HC2. They worked well.
There was no report about the storage capacity problem while we've shipped over 40,000 HC1/HC2 units.

Do you have a 1.8Volt compatible USB-UART cable to monitor raw booting process something like this?

Anyway, it is really weird how the SSD could corrupt the SD card file system.
Can you try this latest Ubuntu minimal image?

Do you use our official 5V/4A PSU?

Thank you @odroid for your quick answer.
Good to know that the storage capacity is not a problem.
No I don't have a USB-UART cable and yes I use the official PSU that shipped with the HC1.
I tried with the minimal Ubuntu you suggested and it's working now :)
I really don't know what happened yesterday, it's strange, the problem I had was with the Debian system that was running on this computer for years (I think it was pre-installed on the SD card I ordered with the HC1, can't remember) and after with Archlinux : https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv ... odroid-hc1
Thank-you!
