can't reboot from OpenMediaVault

Post by skullmonkey911 »

Hi all,

I've installed OMV like described in the hardkernel wiki and it runs good so far. But I have a problem restarting from the GUI.

The system does not restart and the OLED freezes with the reboot time. I need to unplug the device to get it working again.

Regards,

Stephan

Hi,
I have the same problem. I followed the guide from tobetter and downgraded the kernel to 5.10.0 but the problem remains:
I am using SD card as boot while SATA as storage.
I noticed this problem when I was trying to update my OMV today and reboot the machine.
First I tried to reinstall Debian using netboot_default route and then downgrade to 5.10.0 but it still does not restart properly.
I then tried using an older image (20210119.img.xz) using baleaetcher and then downgrade to 5.10.0. This appears to have worked. I would like to install via netboot though.

Can you check the kernel version after downgrading 5.10.0 if it's till 5.11 or not?

Thanks for the reply. I checked the installation and indeed there is an issue.
The old kernel is ignored but I am not sure how to "force" the version 5.10.0.

You have installed two different kernels, 5.11 and 5.10, both can persist in the same root file system and can be switched in between.

Two options,
1) Use the command sudo flash-kernel --force 5.10.0-odroid-arm64, this will switch to 5.10 kernel and update the boot script. So on next boot, it will start with 5.10.0 kernel. Check the boot.scr for sure before rebooting. In order to switch to 5.11 kernel, use sudo flash-kernel --force 5.11.0-odroid-arm64.

Code: Select all

$ sudo flash-kernel --force 5.10.0-odroid-arm64
Using DTB: amlogic/meson64_odroidc4.dtb
Installing amlogic into /boot/dtbs/5.10.0-odroid-arm64/amlogic/
flash-kernel: forcing install of 5.10.0-odroid-arm64 instead of 5.11.0-odroid-arm64.
flash-kernel: WARNING: Installing any new kernel package might override this.
flash-kernel: installing version 5.10.0-odroid-arm64
Generating boot script u-boot image... done.
Taking backup of boot.scr.
Installing new boot.scr.
2) Install Grub if you use the Petitboot, it's capable to show Grub menu entries and select a kernel version. To install and create the grub configuration follow these commands and reboot to the Petitboot.

Code: Select all

$ sudo apt install odroid-grub2
$ sudo update-grub2
I've not figured out the rebooting issue with 5.11 yet, need some time to fix it. Sorry about that.

Surviving 10 out of 10 reboots on my N2+ while desktop variant hangs pretty quick ... which is anyway not a problem for OMV.

Sorry for no update, reboot issue has been fixed in 5.11 kernel built from my Linux kernel branch.

Code: Select all

$ uname -r
5.11.0-odroid-arm64
