Tiny ubuntu

Post by jit »

I build a custom 3.10 kernel and ubuntu 18.04 image for my personal projects based on C1 and / or C0.
The main objective is to get fast boot and light OS to start with. No real security question here, my projects are not connected (or at least very rarely and lan only).

It might interest some people, that's why I published it on github ;)

The kernel : https://github.com/jit06/linux/releases/tag/V2
The Ubuntu Image which includes the kernel : https://github.com/jit06/tiny-ubuntu/bl ... /README.md

with network (DHCP) and 720p display, systemd-analyse gives the following, which is, again, ok for me ;)

Code: Select all

Startup finished in 2.490s (kernel) + 2.916s (userspace) = 5.406s
graphical.target reached after 2.862s in userspace
Updates :
- V1.3-C1 : removed ION support and linux logo. Come with 2 flavours : with and without framebuffer console support

Is it GUI or minimal? I'd love to find a faster C0/C1/C1+ minimal image.

No gui by default, it's based on minimal ubuntu.

The goal is to use this image as a base for dedicated projects. For example, I'm currently building a Volumio image based on this one as volumio no more support the C1. The next thing I will do is probably building a new version of my Gamodroid with this image as a base (https://github.com/jit06/retroarch_fbdev_c1).

That's a neat project, I'll put it on my Candice project in coming weeks. Anything to try to save resources.

Little update with another kernel update. This time I also removed ION support and standard linux Logo. Now the framebuffer has not more reset during boot, which allows to make splash screen until tty is displayed (or any FB / Xorg app).

I updated the first post.
