[SOLVED] issues compiling wifi module after installing kernel 5.11.8-odroid-arm64

Post by C1-10P »

Hi,
I just upgraded my kernel to 5.11.8-odroid-arm64 following https://docs.linuxfactory.or.kr/guides/ ... ernel.html
because I wanted to enable the xpad module and indeed, my xbox controller is now recognised.
I do have an odroid WIFI Module #5A Realtek RTL8811AU chipset ( USB ID = 0bda:a811 ).
Previously I used https://github.com/gnab/rtl8812au.git to make it work and it did work on kernel 5.11.0-odroid-arm64 installed using the ubuntu netboot installer. I could just compile and install it.
Now since I upgraded the kernel the wifi dongle no longer works.
Ok, no problem... I'll just build a new module then but things aren't that simple ...
Now I am unable to compile it ( and other things too ).

I throws me:

Code: Select all

myUserName@n2plus:~/rtl8821au$ make
make ARCH=aarch64 CROSS_COMPILE= -C /lib/modules/5.11.8-odroid-arm64/build M=/home/myUserName/rtl8821au modules
make[1]: Entering directory '/home/myUserName/linux'
Makefile:680: arch/aarch64/Makefile: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** No rule to make target 'arch/aarch64/Makefile'. Stop.
make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/myUserName/linux'
make: *** [Makefile:1879: modules] Error 2
What happened and what do I need to do to fix this please ?

Eventually I figured out that sometimes 64-bit ARM is called “aarch64”, and at other times “arm64”. In this case it's “ARCH=arm64”.
So I ran

Code: Select all

export ARCH=arm64
and I was able to build and insert the module. Wifi working again .
