Powering a USB Hard Drive

Post by RChadwick »

Im upgrading from a C2. When I plugged a 2.5" USB hard drive in, it was only getting around 4V, so I made up a USB/Power cable that powered the C2 as well as the Hard Drive, and had no problems since.

Now, I want to upgrade to an Odroid-C4. I haven't checked the schematic yet, but it looks like there's a DC-DC step down at the power input. Does anyone know if the C4 will reliably power an external USB hard drive?

If you use a 5Volt PSU, your symptom looks quite normal.
The recommended input voltage range of the C4/N2/N2+ is 6~13Volt.

Consider using our official 12V/2A (24Watt) PSU.

Thanks for the response. My wording could have been better. I meant the Odroid-C2 had the low voltage. I don't yet have the C4. The C4 can power a USb hard drive?
