Microphone for vehicle installation

Post by stani_audio »

Hello, I need a USB microphone that is suitable for the vehicle conversion of a Jaguar XJR with an Oroid N2. So that we can issue orders. We have already tested 2 USB microphones, but they are unusable. Does anyone have any experience of which one is suitable? Greetings from Switzerland :D

A typical inexpensive USB soundcard with microphone input should work. This allows you to use any typical microphone with 3.5mm jack.

There's a discussion about microphones in the Candice personal assistant thread.

If you can fabricate a place to hide it a PlayStation Eye camera has a nice microphone array and is cost effective.
Here's one disassembled:

good morning, i am one step further but not quite there yet. First I connected a Saramonic SR-ULM10, this does not work in spite of usb otg. Then I used the following adapter, Antlion & Vivanco USB sound card. The Antilon was not recognized and the Vivanco works to the extent that it outputs the audio signal through the jack, but the microphones are too quiet. (I connected 3 different microphones) Finally I have a studio microphone from img Stage line (ECM-40 with DMA-IUSB adapter). This works perfectly with a phantom voltage of 48V. This part is not possible for vehicle use. Is there a smaller, similar option? Greeting

If you're doing speech recognition a microphone array like the one I recommended would be best.
If you just want a simple small usb microphone for phone calls or something there are many out there.
I modified a cheap one with better elements in this thread:
