I can confirm that the UGREEN USB 3.0 to SD card reader will work with the ODROID eMMC SD card adapter. No specific system drivers are required. Simply plug and play.

I was able to successfully transfer files to my N2's 16GB eMMC with caja/explorer as well as image the card with Win32 Disk imager for ODROID (both read and write operations). Works on either Windows 7 or Linux. Untested on Mac OS X.

I am unsure of the exact chipset this card reader uses.

Based on my experience flashing eMMC cards for C4,N2 and N2+, it's always better to use HK USB3.0 eMMC Module Writer. Still my favourite and more reliable tool to install an OS directly into eMMC modules is tobetter's netboot-installer solution. I even utilize HK USB3.0 eMMC Module Writer to flash images for my RockPi4C board.

And it's much faster as well, but it does have the limitation of not being able to work with the black eMMC modules of which I have several.

Sorry for a newbie but but all this about black or non-black emmc, is it the actual unit or something else that is the color you refer to? What’s the differences between the different colors (technically.....;-))

Different schematics.
The Black eMMC module PCB revision was V0.3 while the Orange eMMC module PCB revision is V0.4.

Thanks, sinne i have a emmc coreelc n2 I haven’t opened it lately but now when I upgraded to matrix I can’t get it to work. I might need to restore the emmc card and buy the writer from hardkernel. Hard to get in Portugal though.... Thanks for your help, it clarified it for me!

You could try this method to flash eMMC if you have ODROID-N2.

Since you have the n2 - you can boot to petitboot, drop to a shell, run ums /dev/mmcblk0 and plug a microusb cable in your PC and you should be able to flash it directly without a reader!
Edit: tobetter beat me to it :)

I'm hoping someone can help me...

Reader: Transcend RDF5K or RDF8K (I bought the RDF5, but lsusb reports RDF8!)
eMMC: Black v0.3 16GB
Official odroid eMMC/uSD adapter

I've tested this on a Macbook Pro (Big Sur) via a usb dongle and on a Windows 10 machine, directly into the SD card slot and with the Transcend reader.

Nothing works. Doesn't even register. I happen to have access to numerous odroids and none of the eMMC modules work.

Any ideas???

Mine also shows "RDF8" on the lsusb output. But it works with any black/orange eMMC modules and adapter boards.

What happens if you plug a micro-SD card to the RDF5K?
