Enabling audio in minimal distro

Post by Sebas_Ledesma »

Hi:

I'm using Ubuntu 20.04 LTS with kernel 4.9.241-69 minimal distro.
I'm trying to enable audio, so I did:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install alsa-base alsa-utils pulseaudio
and lsusb shows the

Code: Select all

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 08bb:29c0 Texas Instruments PCM2900C Audio CODEC
but aplay -l reports:

Code: Select all

aplay: device_list:274: no soundcards found...
lsmod output is:

Code: Select all

Seems that "snd_usb_audio" module driver is missing.
We will add it in the next update.

Thanks.

1 - There is a way to manually add it? I've tried:

Code: Select all

sudo insmod snd_usb_audio
but i get:

Code: Select all

insmod: ERROR: could not load module snd_usb_audio: No such file or directory
2 - Expected release date for the update of the "minimal image" wich includes snd_usb_audio? In the meantime i will switch back to the standard image.

Ubuntu Mate and Minimal image share a common Kernel package.
Wait a couple of days. We need to rebuild kernel and test it.

Can you please post a full dmesg output after the card is connected?

USB_AUDIO is compiled built-in on the kernel that why you can't insmod it.
Your sound card is supported since kernel 2.x so it should be working on current kernel.
