Odroid-C1 + HiFi shield

Greetings, People!

I am an absolute newbie to Odroid, so please go easy on me

I am about to acquire an old, second hand C1 model. And I was wondering if it could be paired with any of the HiFi shields, to make a nice, digital HiFi system. I know that the C1 lacks the J7 connector - was only introduced from C1+ onwards -, but I was wondering if with some wiring and adjusting, the shield could be connected through the J2 pins.
If this is not a new idea, please direct me to the relevant thread. Otherwise, looking forward to any suggestions.

The old original C1 board has no exposed I2S audio interface. There is no way to remap the I2S signals to the J2 GPIOs either.
Therefore, you can't use the HiFi Shield.

So, what would be the best alternative? An external USB soundcard compatible with Linux?
Are there any other alternatives out there that could deliver quality sound?

I have used the USB based Fiio K1 on various Odroid devices and it sounds good. You just need to add a 3.5mm to RCA cable for easy connectivity to the amp.

There are many good USB options out there.

HDMI audio extractors exist. I'd buy a nice one though for sound quality, and you'd need the adapter since C1 had the wee little port.

Yeah I didn't think about those even though I have 3 or 4 of them, I don't know how the sound quality compares to a dedicated DAC but should be good enough.

BTW, for connecting a screen, does it have a micro or mini HDMI port?

According to the wiki it's a Type D micro HDMI on C1, this thread title is a bit misleading so while rooted's statement is indeed true it is not applicable to your device.

Ah ha, it's C1 plus not C1+.. good catch.

Wikipedia is wrong. Both c1 and c1+ have a full hdmi port. XU3 had a micro hdmi port.

They say memory is the first to go... I could have sworn one of my first odroids was a C1, but it looks like it was an early C1+...
