HC4 slow transfer speed between 2 sata drives

Post by BadPritt »

Hi all.
I'm doing tests with the Odroid HC4. I've only started, so I've not much information yet.
One thing that seems odd is that when transfering data between 2 plugged SATA drives it is very slow.
About 16MB/s

While the drives seperatly perform very well. So I'm a bit puzzled by this.
Here the seperate transfer rates :

Code: Select all

Data transfer
-------------
                            Read Write Access time
500GB SATA HDD 108.1 MB/s 105.2 MB/s 15.80 msec Starts at 130MB/s and slowly goes down to 80MB/s
1.5TB SATA HDD 107.3 MB/s 99.4 MB/s 17.79 msec Starts at 130MB/s and slowly goes down to 70MB/s
Adata SATA SSD 410.4 MB/s 423.6 MB/s 0.24 msec
SD-card SanDisk Ultra 64GB 84.9 MB/s 21.7 MB/s 0.31 msec Starts read at about 75MB/s after 200MB it's stable 90MB/s
So all around 100MB/s for the HDDs. And even 400MB/s for the ssd. But copying data between the ssd and HDD lowers it to 16MB/s.

Using Ubuntu Mate 20.04.
It also consumes about 40% of the processor performance. No cores are maxed out.
Greetings, NicoD

If the destination drive has a ntfs filesystem you'll need to mount it with the big_writes option, otherwise performance is poor. NTFS in general will have less performance than xfs, ext3, etc.
