How do i install the NIC drivers for pfsense (Odriod H2+)?

Post by linwin »

Hi I was wondering how is it possible to get pfsense to detect the NIC for the Odriod H2+?
as it shuts down if it cannot detect the NIC's
I am using version 11.3 stable and im trying to load up the drivers found here
https://forums.serverbuilds.net/t/guide ... altek/3555
as I have heard they are compatible without an internet connection I am not able to fetch the file
I have tried to mount a separate USB stick containing the files through the shell but the mount option is not supported on the device is the error raised
I have also tried to mount the nvme zfs partition but to no avail with zpool

I have no idea.
I hope other FreeBSD users can help you.

maybe give opnsense a try.
( opnsense is an alternative to pfsense , I personally think opnsense is the better one )

since opnsense version 20.7.4 - 2,5GB NIC drivers supported,

BUT to install you have to plugin a supported USB NIC, because the installer is still version 20.7 without 2,5GB NIC support.
With the USB NIC, you can upgrade to the current version and your H2+ 2,5GB NIC fully work.

My odroid H2+ opnsense build works without any issues in my case.

Happy New Year :)
I have this USB NIC :
Lenovo Ethernet Adapter USB 3.0, -> Lenovo site link
but many of the cheap 1 GBit USB NICs shout work out of the box.

https://www.lenovo.com/gb/en/accessorie ... 4X90S91830
which appears to have a RTL8153 inside

The USB NIC workaround should let you get pfSense up for first boot too - though I can't find any RTL8125B driver for freeBSD so it might be a moot point.

Try this. Should work for pfSense or OpenSense - or even FreeNAS. Just make sure you use the driver compiled for the right version of BSD.

Requires: USB NIC for initial boot and install.

Attach USB NIC and connect it to your network.
Boot your H2 using the appropriate BSD based distro.
Follow the instructions here to download and install the FreeBSD drivers: https://forums.serverbuilds.net/t/guide ... ek/3555/55
Note: Make sure you use the 1.96 or newer driver for H2+ to get 2.5gb drivers
Poweroff, remove the USB NIC and reboot. Should be in business!

Note that these drivers also fix the "watchdog reset" issues seen with RealTek drivers on pfSense.

@piglover awesome will give the instructions a go, I can confirm that the ThinkPad USB3.0 to Ethernet Adapter with the RTL8153 does work with pfsense right out of the box no additional configuration required
