N2 not accepting a hiddev,hidraw device

Post by nappyjim »

When I plugged USB dongle (Wyzesense **used for home automation) into my raspberry pi 4 and I checked my logs, this is what I would see.

When I plug the same thing into my new Odroid N2, I see this. Any suggestions??

Does your dongle trigger the loading of any specific driver/module? Check lsmod on rpi before and after plugging it in the first time and do a diff between outputs. What OS are you running on N2?

HomeAssistant

Dont see any change in lsmod before and after plugging in the dongle. I know in my other thread about wifi, you said I should contact HomeAssistant dev's for that. I'd like to do this too, but wouldnt know what to tell them to add.

It seems a newer Home Assistant OS Kernel 5.10 update will support the HID devices.

Awesome news!

Now my next question, how would I update the kernel? Im a windows guy, just getting into the Linux world with Home Assistant. I can follow procedures pretty well (if they are written in such a way that they dont assume you already know other things). But as far as thinking on my own and being able to navigate a linux command line, I'm totally lost. I have putty access to my N2; thats about where I'm at.

I've searched ODroid site for updating kernel but didnt come up with anything that seemed to relate to my situation with this being a preinstalled OS(?) from homeassistant.

As far as I know, there is a simple system update command in the dedicated HomeAssistant CLI.
Anyway, posting a question on their own forum is much more efficient.

After more digging and realizing kernel and operating system are synonymous, I have a little update icon come up when there is one. Picture is taken from my Pi, which Im not updating because its working fine. My N2 is running 5.9 and according to that link you sent, 5.10 and beyond should be what Im looking for. Thanks for linking me to that github.

The thing is HassOS was built to be userfriendly and robust, but not easy to tinker-with. So new software has to come from their project/app store.
You can discuss hardware specific issues on this forum, though.

Regarding updates - my advice is to update things monthly even if they work. Read the release notes and fix components with breaing changes early. Otherwise you may be forced to upgrade after a year because some component's cloud has changed only to discover a lot of other things have broken because you have an old config.
