[SOLVED] Ubuntu 20.04 doesn't see manpages

Post by BKFC »

I have Ubuntu 20.04 installed on an N2, and have performed the following:

sudo apt update
sudo install manpages
sudo apt install man-db manpages-posix manpages-dev manpages-posix-dev
sudo mandb

When I enter
man -w man
I get
/usr/share/man/man1/man.1.gz
...but when I enter
man man
I get a blank page with zero bytes.

My manpath is /usr/local/man:/usr/local/share/man:/usr/share/man

I have no problem on an AMD machine with Ubuntu 20.04. What am I missing?

Which Ubuntu 20.04 image did you flash?

I could run 'man man' out of the box. I didn't install any additional apt packages on our stock Ubuntu image.

From the same site, I used ...716 (with MATE).

I've just freshly flashed the 716 Mate image with Etcher and 'man man' command works out of the box.
I will check it again after running 'apt update/upgrade and reboot' things.

After system updates, 'man' command doesn't work any more as you described. :o
I don't know what's wrong. :(

I found a solution via googling. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1778684
'man' command works fine now after typing the following two commands.

Code: Select all

sudo apt install apparmor-utils
sudo aa-disable /usr/bin/man

That worked - thanks! Not sure what "disabling /usr/bin/man" means when that's what is invoked...

It just means that security profiles enforced by app armor are disabled for man. It should be fine for most.
