Power the Odroid H2+ with external power unit PC

Post by franky »

I would like to use an external power unit for the Odroid H2+,i think it can work with 12V but with 20A it will be too much for the card ?

Thank you

No problem. You can even use a 100A PSU.

BTW, 3.5inch SATA HDD will not work stably if you connect it to the SATA power port on the H2+ board when you use a 12Volt PSU.
Connect the SATA power to the PC PSU directly to avoid the issue.

Did you rework the green wire with your ATX power?

No matter where the connector is attached, the green wire must be tied to ground in order to activate ATX power. Your graphic card may need the much power source but I don't think it will control the ATX power. You can simply test it after removing all connectors from your graphics card and H2, and just the green wire if ATX power works or not.

Hmmm...I've noticed that SW1 on R3G card and looks like it's connected with the green wire pin of ATX power input.

I found the schematic of R3G as well.

I am not sure what's different between "AUTO" and "FORCE" since I have no idea about "J3", but accroding to the schematic it's worth to flip the SW1 and check the ATX port if green wire pin shorts to GND.

Since I do not have an experience, I am not able to provide the answer. If your H2+ can boot with ATX power and GFX card can be powered on with H2+, but no screen, I would try to check the power cable and signal timings in BIOS if there is and also would try the SW1 and SW2 on R3G board.

Wiki says that Link reactivation; fundamental reset, so it may extend the reset signal for the given time.
