[SOLVED] strange routing perf on h2+

Post by fafa93160 »

Hello,
I have an 5Gb/s fiber link and i like to use it fully. So i buy an H2+ to be my new multi giga router.
in the past my old odroid C2 made great the job for the DSL + 4G link.

But i have a trouble.
I mesure from my desktop (ubuntu 18.04) with iperf3 to the router (h2+ ubuntu 20.10) :
iperf3 -c 192.168.4.251 -4 -P 16 -R
[SUM] 0.00-10.00 sec 2.75 GBytes 2.36 Gbits/sec 0 sender
[SUM] 0.00-10.00 sec 2.74 GBytes 2.35 Gbits/sec receiver

It a good perf !

but when i go out with an
iperf3 -c bouygues.testdebit.info -p 5204 -R -4 -P 16
[SUM] 0.00-10.00 sec 657 MBytes 551 Mbits/sec 114363 sender
[SUM] 0.00-10.00 sec 632 MBytes 530 Mbits/sec receiver

it's a small perf isnt it ?
during this iperf3 command the htop command dont show any bottleneck cpu using.

for a check, on the router i have made the same command :
iperf3 -c bouygues.testdebit.info -p 5204 -R -4 -P 16
[SUM] 0.00-10.00 sec 2.79 GBytes 2.39 Gbits/sec 5859 sender
[SUM] 0.00-10.00 sec 2.74 GBytes 2.35 Gbits/sec receiver

An other test, let me feel strange :
I have changed the autonego of the external nic of the router and force the speed to 1000 with
ethtool -s enp2s0 speed 1000 autoneg off

Now the external speed on my desktop is :
iperf3 -c bouygues.testdebit.info -p 5204 -R -4 -P 16
[SUM] 0.00-10.00 sec 1.12 GBytes 963 Mbits/sec 474 sender
[SUM] 0.00-10.00 sec 1.09 GBytes 939 Mbits/sec receive

I try to force the speed to 2500 but ethtool dont recognise the speed

Have you got a idea to have 2.5giga routing perf on my h2+ ?
Thank a lot in advance
François

I hope other users can give you any hint since we have a simple 2.5GbE switch only which has no such issue.
What is the brand/model name of your multi giga router?

Hello,

I have solved the trouble by upgrading the kernel to 5.9 from 5.8 :
So the two nic has been recognize with r8169 ko instead of r8125 and everything goes good ! no drop frame and full routing 2.35 Giga ! very low cpu consumption too for the nic interrupts that permit me to put the nic in promiscuous mode for an complete tracing of the ip traffic

For information i use QNAP QSW-1105-5T

Thank
François

Thank you for the update and glad to hear you found a solution.
BTW, are you running Kernel 5.9.10 on Ubuntu 20.10?
