Open VPN

Post by cap_cap »

Hi guys, first of all i understand this was widely discussed topic. I know how to use "search" function, it just didn't help me much. Until recent I've been using comand line in terminal sudo openvpn with one of the servers downloaded on the memory card. Not sure when it stopped working, noticed that today when decided to do some cable work involving shutting the system down. After the new attempt to run it, it returned the connection error. I wasn't sure i needed to post the entire message.

I use quite simple router at home so control at that level is not an option for me. Also I didn't plan to buy a smart manageable one.

My service provider is PIA. The native application is not not launching on N2 that's i guess is known fact.

In the past I was a CoreElec user but due to certain limitations (it's personal, my wife weighted in) I had to go back to Ubuntu: the stock version distributed with the new devices. During the Corelec times i had no problems using the add-on. Question, how do you solve this problem on regular OS?

Thank you in advance for patient and (most important) simple answers. It could be vast info, just bear my very begginer's level at Linux OS.

So - are you trying to connect to a different (remote) openvpn server, or are you running the server on the N2?
Let us know what programs/plugins you're using and what output you get from them...

PIA have a support route - you can ask them for help with the service you pay them for.

The OpenVPN CLI client is the same on all Linux distros so the same approach will work across them all. If you think this is Ubuntu-specific then perhaps the Ubuntu forums might be a good place to look for the error you are having?

I thought PIA was an acronym for Pain-In-the-Behind

I thought i should ve posted the command as well:
sudo openvpn CA \Vancouver ovpn
The attribute is just one of 30-ish pre-downloaded OVPN's

Well, TLS handshake failed... I think you can increase verbosity in the ovpn config file. Not sure why it complains...

Both of these IP addresses are apparently unroutable so your configuration is likely to be incorrect. You might want to re-download the OVPN files from PIA and if they still don't work then ask them why.

Good call, I went to the ISP web-site and downloaded the latest configuration files. They had a new set available for download called Next-Gen, it worked but for some reason disconnected in a few minutes. I'm going to play longer with them. Anyways i saw light at the end of the tunnel.
