Odroid N2 died with 18v power supply.

Post by harddroid »

Hello,

I just want to warn anyone to supply 18v at the odroid n2. Ive read here on the forum this could help with hdmi pixelclock problems and wanted to give it a try. It just lost a power stepdown module (u17). Now the kernel and panfrost testing got to its end.

You may be able to replace that IC (or take it to a phone repair shop)

Some PSUs have an output voltage of 1 to 2 volts higher than their specifications. :(
It is worth to measure the PSU output voltage if you have a DMM.

I did measure the power supply and it has 18.1v. I already ordered some SY8120B1ABC and I will try to repair it. I think it is my fault to try the maximum voltage, but maybe its a good idea to add a more explicit warning to the wiki.

We tested N2/N2+ boards with bench top power supply at 18.5Volt and there was no critical issue.
The DCDC converter IC absolute maximum voltage is 19Volt and recommended voltage range is ~18Volt.
Therefore, our max input voltage specification shows 18Volt.

But the IC seems not to have enough margin as your current situation.
We will do some further tests and analysis, we might need to change the specification to 7.5~16V from 7.5~18V.

Just to confirm I have been running my H2 at 18.8v supply for almost 18 months now with no problem non stop but it is a very stable constant supply.

You cannot compare those two:

Code: Select all

DC jack : outer (negative) diameter 5.5mm, inner(positive) diameter 2.1mm
DC 14V ~ 20V (up to 60W)

Sorry I misread H2/N2 confusion :|

I did replace U17, but it does not power on. Only red led is solid, blue is off and no power at usb ports.
