Mount eMMC from petitboot?

Post by benwillcox »

Hi, is it possible to mount the eMMC from the petitboot command line? I can see the mmc devices in /dev/ but not sure how I can mount them on the filesystem so that I can view and edit the files?

Thanks,
Ben

The partitions in a storage will be mounted to /usr/var/petitboot/mnt/dev/ and you can read from there.

Thanks I just had a look but don't have anything underneath /usr/var/petitboot/mnt/
Should it mount there automatically?

Yes, every single partitions in a storage mounted to ODROID-N2 will mounted under the directory. For example, I have two storages are mounted uSD card and USB storage with OS images.

If I do the same I have 0 items listed under that directory.

It looks like my system is running Petitboot 20190325, could this be the reason? The board is a brand new N2+ that has just come from the new October batch.

20190325?? How is it so old?
Did you order from Hardkernel or somewhere else?

Can you please update the Petitboot with the recovery image and test it again?

Sorry I made a mistake - I was testing with an old N2, the new N2+ was next to it on the side of the bench :-D
You're right, the newer N2+ has a newer petitboot and I can see the mounted eMMC. I will update my old N2 so that it has a newer petitboot version,

Many thanks for your help!

Sorry about that!

Upgrade was really easy following the instructions on your link, and the new ums feature (maybe it's not that new, as mine was so old!) is really useful.

Many thanks,
Ben

If you use UMS feature from the Petitboot, it's way easier and not to detach your eMMC at all. :)

Yes, UMS FTW! I plan to use it on my N2 which has too many wires coming out of it...

Oh wow I just realised you can actually flash the eMMC using this method, not just manipulate the files on the filesystem! This is really cool:-)

The only thing that would be a slight improvement (as sometimes its good when remotely supporting a customer who is not too technical) is if it were possible to execute 'ums /dev/mmcblk0' directly from a menu option instead of dropping to the command line and typing. But, it's not a big deal.
