[SOLVED] Dissabling 'pop up' update notifications and others

Post by Sebas_Ledesma »

Hi:

We are using C2 + VU7plus display in a product.
As our product it's embebed into a main hardware we dont use keyboard neither mouse, just the touch screen and the GPIO for a rotary encoder and buttons (you can take a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bP9CqapmvjE )
So we want to avoid any standard notification dialog/window like the update notifications.

So I've changed the configuration in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/20auto-upgrades
from
APT::Periodic::Update-Package-Lists "1";
to
APT::Periodic::Update-Package-Lists "0";

But we noticed recently that this dont prevent from the 'Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS Upgrade Available' pop up.
So doing a little of search I've updated our .deb packages to update the file
/etc/update-manager/release-upgrades
from
Prompt=lts
to
Prompt=never

So,I have a couple of questions:
My install already knows that there is a new OS upgrade as when I enter by SSH the welcome message reports me that a new upgrade it's available.
1 - How can I avoid to prevent that the pop-up shows again (just in case that the user pressed [Ask me later] ) ?
2 - There is any other pop-up that I should take care of?

Thanks in advance
Sebas

Nice-looking product!
For linux I've noticed the following extra dialogs:
* keyring unlock dialog
* sometimes network manager wants you to reenter the wifi password when it disconnects
* application crash report

According to this post: http://arcolinuxforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=954
It is possible to move-out/renaming the service like this:

Code: Select all

sudo mv /usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.freedesktop.mate.Notifications.service /usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.freedesktop.mate.Notifications.service.disabled
but probably it will require a reboot.

To prevent that cached messages 'Ubuntu xxxx Upgrade Available' appears again in the future (if the user pressed [As me later] ) just delete:
/var/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/release-upgrade-available
