Microsoft all-in-one Media keyboard

Post by _HC1_dude »

Hi all,
I bought a Microsoft all-in-one Media keyboard for use with my N2+ based media server set up. I'm using the image from this thread by jgmdev

The keyboard performance is spotty to say the least. Positioned right next to the n2+ it is acceptable but even moving it by 30-40cm renders it virtually useless.
I see in this thread from last year from last year that there are people using this keyboard on their N2s and are happy with the performance.

Another thread looks at issues of rf interference with bluetooth and 2.4Ghz devices and suggestions are made to use the OTG USB port at the front. I'd rather not have a cable hanging out the front for this to work. Perhaps if I can find a small form factor male mini USB to female USB A adapter I could try that out.

Could it be a software issue?
I'm charging up some new eneloops just to be sure it's not a power issue.

Happy to hear any experiences, suggestions or other relevant responses.

J

usb ports are not loaded? (disconnect other devices from USB ports and check if the problem persists).
There is no wifi / bluetooth in the area that can interfere with work?

USB ports are loaded with external DAC and eternal drive. I'll try without.
The N2 is within range if my wifi network but not connected to it.

I have this keyboard and the range problem occurs if there is wifi / bluetooth in the background or if the USB ports are heavily loaded (many devices connected to USB), this happens not only on the N2, but also on the PC.

Thanks for your reply,
As I said there are two USB ports in use, one for a DAC and one for the external drive containing the media.
I assume there is wifi in the background but bluetooth would generally not be unless someone had a device nearby. I can't remove wifi from the area without affecting others and I can't go without what's using the USB ports.
Do you think something like this in the front USB port would help?
Micro-USB OTG Adapter

Slightly longer OTG-to-Host cable will reduce the RF interference problem significantly.
Try to find something like this.

1) they're out-of-stock
and 2) I'm hoping for a more aesthetic solution
but thanks for the suggestion.
Alternatively, would a longer cable out of the usb ports to somewhere further away reduce the problem?
I'll have to try it
Or, is there anyway of shielding the used USB ports?

So, set up like this and the range is vastly improved and lag has significantly reduced. That seems to confirm it's a rf interference issue. Such a shame.

I might pick up a cheap OTG USB adapter to see if that is also acceptable as it's a more elegant solution.
Thanks to the respondents.
