Ubuntu 20.04 display problem on Cloudshell2

Post by robcast »

I just upgraded to Ubuntu 20.04 on my XU4+Cloudshell2 by installing the ubuntu-20.04.1-5.4-minimal-odroid-xu4-20200812 image.

Everything went fine and disk access works fine but I can't get the display to work.

I installed the odroid-cloudshell and cloudshell-lcd packages from kyle1117.

In /media/boot/config.ini I added

Code: Select all

overlay_profile=hktft_cs_ogst
...
[overlay_hktft_cs_ogst]
overlays="hktft-cs-ogst i2c0 i2c1"
But the display stays black and also the backlight does not seem to work.

In dmesg I don't see any framebuffer messages. i2cdetect shows

Code: Select all

i2cdetect -l
i2c-4	i2c       	exynos5-i2c                     	I2C adapter
i2c-2	i2c       	s3c2410-i2c                     	I2C adapter
Any ideas?

Hi.

Try re-installing uboot package.
sudo apt install --reinstall uboot

Then the DTBO will work as you intended. Please let us know the results. :)

Yes, that worked! :) Thanks @yoshua.yang !

Can you explain why this helped? Is this a new version of uboot or do I have to reinstall uboot every time I change anything about DTBO?

Thank you for the confirmation.
Only the newer version of the u-boot can handle the new DTBO feature in Kernel 5.4 properly.
But we couldn't figure out how to update the u-boot automatically in 'do-release-upgrade' process.
