Ubuntu 20.04 Mate (20200818) where to download?

Post by Kent446 »

Hi,
according to the wiki https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-xu4/os_i ... ow_servers
the ubuntu-20.04.1-5.4-mate-odroid-xu4-20200818.img.xz image is now available, but I can't find the image on the servers.
Where I can download it?

I tried out the Ubuntu version 20.04 download and it will not boot up. I tried both the M$W and Linux methods but no success. Looks like it does not even expand the file to the card size. I used a working eMMC Odroid card, I have some spare ones all in good working order. Put back the 18.04 card and the XU4 I used for testing comes back to life without complaint. All that happens is the red led comes on and stays on, no blinking led. I waited half an hour each time but nada! Checked the md5sum on both the compressed and un-compressed image file, all good. Any ideas??

Did you flash ubuntu-20.04.1-5.4-mate-odroid-xu4-20200818.img.xz with Etcher?

Etcher could be downloadable from their official site.

Thank you, I just tried "etcher" but the results are crazy. Seems to burn much quicker than the other methods I tried but the results are strange. needless to say it did not work. :(

See results attached. Etcher on M$W first then disk destroyer on Linux second. DD looks closer to it working but no joy with that either!

The partition types in the Etcher burns are strange indeed, for anything that pretends to work on Linux?

I will give it a rest now and play with something else....... I do presume that someone has done some QA on this file. ;)

Looks like the DD results are first, just the way they are stacked I guess.

That Ubuntu 20.04 image has been downloaded over 2000 times and there was no critical issue reported yet.
So the image must be fine.

We've used the Etcher on Windows as well as Linux PC for a few years.
So I believe the Etcher must be fine too.
Did you have any issue in the validation process of the Etcher?

Do you use a USB card reader? or use a built-in SD slot in your laptop?
Did you choose a target disk instead of a target partition?

## No issues, see attached pic.

Do you use a USB card reader? or use a built-in SD slot in your laptop?
## I have used the very same Sandisk card reader/burner that I have always used "ImageMate All-in-One #S41127" with the Odroid eMMC to Micro SD adapter

Did you choose a target disk instead of a target partition?
## Target Disk, Drive F:

I've just downloaded the image again and checked the md5sum value with file size.

Code: Select all

odroid@H2:~$ md5sum ubuntu-20.04.1-5.4-mate-odroid-xu4-20200818.img.xz
93bff297c967b9656a42e3fe62398d38 ubuntu-20.04.1-5.4-mate-odroid-xu4-20200818.img.xz

odroid@H2:~$ ls -alp ubuntu-20.04.1-5.4-mate-odroid-xu4-20200818.img.xz
-rw-rw-r-- 1 odroid odroid 1303410760 Aug 20 13:37 ubuntu-20.04.1-5.4-mate-odroid-xu4-20200818.img.xz
Flashed the .xz file as it is into my 8GB eMMC module with Etcher and validation was fine.
It booted well.

I notice that you used the "xz" file, I think that I tried the expanded "img" file, which is why etcher borked.

Tried it with etcher and the "xz" file and it copied/ verified correctly, same as "dd" but with the same dead result on test!
I am using an Hardkernel Red 32 GB eMMC on a standard XU4 that runs sweetly on 18.04 Mate.
See attached view of the resulting partitioning, same as the "dd" try earlier.
No expansion of the Ext4 partition and no boot up.
The xz file md5sum is correct.

I want to see if there is any serial link output on my M$W notebook.
Can you suggest a program and method to do this?
I already have the Odroid serial cable, just finding the first use for it! :)

Etcher has a proven built-in xz decompressor.
I think your decompressing utility on Windows seems to have a compatibility issue.

Compare md5sum and file size with the following items which I decompressed .xz to .img on a Linux PC(H2+).

Code: Select all

odroid@H2:~$ xz -d -v ubuntu-20.04.1-5.4-mate-odroid-xu4-20200818.img.xz
ubuntu-20.04.1-5.4-mate-odroid-xu4-20200818.img.xz (1/1)
  100 % 1,243.0 MiB / 6,155.0 MiB = 0.202 57 MiB/s 1:48

odroid@H2:~$ ls -alp ubuntu-20.04.1-5.4-mate-odroid-xu4-20200818.img
-rw-rw-r-- 1 odroid odroid 6453985280 Aug 20 13:37 ubuntu-20.04.1-5.4-mate-odroid-xu4-20200818.img

odroid@H2:~$ md5sum ubuntu-20.04.1-5.4-mate-odroid-xu4-20200818.img

I used the xz file after the first try and it was checksumed OK

Anyway, when I programed and verified it using Etcher the card should have booted. I tried some other cards and got one to boot so I believe it is the "partition expander" that borks on bootup, without leaving an error message, a dynamic issue.
If the expander croaks it should just boot the burned version and leave it to me to expand manually using "gparted"! :(

Not happy but I got what I wanted and am enjoying customizing it. Very nice Mate distribution, as always, my compliments to the crew. :)
I am now using it and am very happy with it. Thank you for all your help, most appreciated.
I purchased some spare cards as these must be getting old.

When will the N2 be again available in the shop? I fancy it with a bigger monitor with more pixels for use with Blender.......

The auto partition resizing in the first booting process had no critical issue so far.
Anyway, good to hear you made it boot with another SD card.

The next batch production of the N2+ will be ready to order/ship around 5 weeks later.
