Hi,
I installed the latest armbian with kernel 5.4
Installed gnome with wayland
compiled mesa with panfrost and wayland and x11 support following this guide https://linux-sunxi.org/Mali_Open_Source_Driver (it builds and supposedly installs correctly)
I want run panfrost so I can have hardware acceleration an video acceleration (gpu + vpu)
How can I enable panfrost in wayland?
I didn't do anything in this direction, but check if this can help you in any way:

Does the current kernel (5.4.x) supports LCD and Fan for Cloudshell 2 out of the box now?

Untested. Perhaps @AreaScout can clarify if this works now OOB? I don't have such setup (and also not physical access to hw ATM) to verify.

    @DimaKompot

    Not out of the box, you have to configure/apply the overlay files to the device tree file by just doing this command

    Code: Select all

    apt install device-tree-compiler
    fdtoverlay -v -i /boot/dtb/exynos5422-odroidxu4.dtb -o /boot/dtb/exynos5422-odroidxu4.dtb /boot/dtb/overlays/hktft-cs-ogst.dtbo /boot/dtb/overlays/i2c0.dtbo /boot/dtb/overlays/i2c1.dtbo

    There should also be an easier way to do this by just enable the LCD and i2c bus for fan control inside the boot.ini file but HK has not officially release an howto on that, there is only this documentation https://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=184&t=37073 but it has changed, I have asked and waiting for further instructions.

      Ok I got instructions from HK, I am sure when kernel 5.4 is released you can find an official guide how to use it, but for Armbian Kernel it should work with add this to boot.ini so that's the non patching with fdtoverlay way

      find this line fdt addr 0x44000000 and add this:

      Code: Select all

      # set FDT address
      fdt addr 0x44000000
      fdt resize 8192

      setenv overlays "i2c0 i2c1 hktft-cs-ogst"
      for overlay in ${overlays}; do
             ext4load mmc 0:1 0x60000000 /boot/dtb/overlays/${overlay}.dtbo
             fdt apply 0x60000000
      done

        Is it safe to add this by default? boot.ini is shared with stock kernel. What will happened ... I have no access to this hardware ATM to do quick test.

          No it's not save, it's only for the CloudShell2 hardware but we also have OGST Gaming Kit and Touch Screens and what not, it should work if you have that hardware, in the future I think HK will add some lines to the boot.ini which you can enable a hardware that you are using e.g (setenv cloudshell2_case "1") or (setenv ads7846_touch "1") and then uboot will add the corresponding overlay file to the device tree file

          But if they add it you have to adjust that lines to Armbian because HK is using fatload (fat32 partion for boot.ini) and you aren't (ext4load) -> at least that's the trap I was fall into :lol:

          You might want to include it in boot.ini, but comment out by default

            Here is an example how it could look like in the future, off course there is much more hardware to enable other than the CloudShell2 case

              You also disabled the console/boot log, I think this is not needed for non CloudShell2 users https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/2 ... 1b83b80R23

              @AreaScout:
              I just tested 5.4 with edited boot.ini: the display works, but the fan doesn't. I used to turn it on by:

              Code: Select all

              i2cset -y 1 0x60 0x05 0x00; #start fan
              but now it says:

              Code: Select all

              root@odroidxu4:~# i2cset -y 1 0x60 0x05 0x00;
              Error: Write failed

              was the address changed?

              UPD:
              changed from 1 to 0 and it started work

              Code: Select all

              i2cset -y 0 0x60 0x05 0x00; #start fan

                Yes the device node aliases changed from 1 to 0 HK Github commit

                I also had to change my cloudshell2-monitoring tool to support the new naming https://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?p=296354#p296354

                I can't seem to be able to adjust the resolution in buster/focal. After editing

                Code: Select all

                /boot/boot.ini
                nothing really happens. I also tried to use the

                Code: Select all

                armbianEnv.txt
                fine but nothing changes either.
                Any clues?

                5.8.5 (dev) download link?

                Thanks for the XU4 image igorpec! I test drove the Bullseye server image with a 5.4 kernel yesterday and have it on the eMMC now. Only issue I bumped into so far was that HDMI audio played in mono only (I use the Odroid as an MPD server, connected through HDMI to my receiver). Defining an /etc/asound.conf solved that issue:

                Code: Select all

                pcm.!default {
                        type plug
                        slave {
                                pcm "hw:0,0"
                                }
                        }

                ctl.!default {
                        type hw
                        card 0
                }
                Was curious since the earlier Hardkernel 5.0 kernels would kill my audio altogether somehow, so I stuck with 4.14 until now.

                Kernel 5.4.y is still considered a bit experimental. We will try to implement - if we find time - https://armbian.atlassian.net/browse/AR-469

                Also - if you know around Armbian build system - welcome to do that.

                Thanks! I'm familiar with e.g. OpenWrt's buildroot and cross compiling, but my aim is to keep maintenance low (hence why I looked at Armbian). I can test-drive images from MicroSD e.g. though if you'd like me to, when I have the time.

                As for the /etc/asound.conf, it hardcodes output to 44.1 kHz, so I will test if I can leave that out (I have some 96 kHz/24 bit audio around).

                Of course.

                Adding this small fix to the build system means you will not need to do that again next time. Its also a small contribution to our work.

                Perhaps contributors will add it by then, perhaps not. We are fixing a lot of problems but still we are far too small to fix "everything" that pops up. That's why I always try to ask for help - helping you. Personally, I don't need this feature, otherwise I would probably already work ...

                adding file here
                https://github.com/armbian/build/tree/m ... ound.state
                and variable ASOUND_STATE this way https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/m ... ro.wip#L11 to
                to this file https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/m ... idxu4.conf might just be enough.

                I see. I'm seeing this in /var/lib/alsa/asound.state. Can I add this verbatim? The 'control.2' value looks a bit lengthy. The HDMI volume cannot be changed either way (was like that on 4.9 and 4.14 as well so I suspect it's fully normal).

                I can create a Github PR with the modifications like you explained, no problem.

                Code: Select all

                state.OdroidXU4 {
                        control.1 {

                If you are running Armbian desktop and you like to use Visual Studio Code, open a terminal and run:

                Code: Select all

                sudo apt update
                sudo apt install code
                Runs nicely on Odroid XU4.

                Yea i built from src last night and got 5.4.103 Ubuntu. couldnt get the kernel headers for 103 to build zfs. So i backed up to 102. I imagine the kernel headers just hadnt propagated out yet. Or else i did something else wrong. I'll give it a few days then try to upgrade.
                Thanks for all your work .

                If you build from sources and you need headers for some reason, you have to build with INSTALL_HEADERS="yes" to have matched one on the target. https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Build-Options/

                Alternatively you could use beta nightly repository, where we propagate all latest kernels automatically when upstream is changed, but they are untested on hardware. But we are working on that ...

                Hello @igorpec
                For XU4:
                I wanted to install OMV on Buster.
                It is installed on the uSD card without any problems.
                I cannot install the same image on eMMC, the blue led does not light, so it does not see the boot. The red led is on and stays that way, no other reaction.
                What do you think could be the reason?

                Bootloader on your eMMC is stock, which doesn't support booting from Linux partition - only FAT. It needs to be updated -> boot from SD card and go to "nand-sata-install" utility. There you have an option to update boot loader. After that, it should boot.

                I have a few emmcs. I installed Android, Android TV, Ubuntu, Armbian ubuntu, fedora to existing emmc's and had no problems.
                The problem is only on Debian buster
                -------
                Which of the options in the picture should I do?

                edit:
                OK, everything is fine.

                Great! If the problem is what I think it is, number 6 is / was correct answer.

                Number 6 didn't work.
                Number 3 worked.
                Transferred the image from uSD to emmc, ok.
