N2 eMMc Recovery ** No partition table - mmc 1 **

Post by fbael »

Dear All

I try to install Homassistant on a Odroid N2.
For this i use USB3.0 eMMC Module Writer and flashe the image using etcher...
https://www.home-assistant.io/hassio/installation/

When i boot the n2 there is no blue light and the serical consol gives the following error:
U-Boot 2020.01 (Jul 03 2020 - 10:20:01 +0000) odroid-n2

Code: Select all

DRAM: 3.8 GiB
MMC: sd@ffe05000: 0, mmc@ffe07000: 1
In: serial@3000
Out: serial@3000
Err: serial@3000
Net: eth0: ethernet@ff3f0000
Card did not respond to voltage select!
unable to select a mode
switch to partitions #0, OK
mmc1(part 0) is current device
** No partition table - mmc 1 **
MMC Device 2 not found
no mmc device at slot 2
starting USB...
Bus usb@ff500000: Register 3000140 NbrPorts 3
Starting the controller
USB XHCI 1.10
scanning bus usb@ff500000 for devices... 1 USB Device(s) found
usb - USB sub-system
I think this has something to do with the fact that the usb writer can’t access the eMMC hidden boot blocks.

My question is: How can i do a recovery of the hidden boot blocks of the emmc?

What i tried so far:
https://wiki.odroid.com/accessory/emmc/emmc
https://wiki.odroid.com/accessory/emmc/recovery_xu4 -> I think this guide is just for XU3/XU4 Booards and not for n2.
https://github.com/home-assistant/opera ... issues/675 -> There are also other people having the same issue, but solultion doesn't work for me

Thank you very much for your help...

Best regards
Fabian

One more thing i would like to mention:
If i flash the latest ubuntu to the emmc with the usb writer (ubuntu-18.04.4-4.9-minimal-odroid-n2-20200229.img.xz)
The N2 boots without any issues.

All emmc's i use are: yellow:32GB eMMC Module N2 Android/Linux (both versions tested)

Thx for your help

All of Amlogic SoC on the C1/C2/N2/C4 boards don't use the hidden partition for the booting process.

OK i din't know that
thank you very much for the fast answer.

If i flash the image to a sd card the n2 boots also without any problems.

Is there a way how i can "Copy" from sd card to emmc?

I have no idea how Homassistant OS boot loader handles the eMMC partitions.
Would be better to post a question on their forum if available or compare the boot options with our Ubuntu image.
