MicroSD Card Size - are all sizes okay?

Post by whossideareyouon » Tue Mar 03, 2020 9:20 pm

Hi,

What is the largest size MicroSD Card the Odroid Go Advance can take?

I have a 400GB card that I was using in my other Raspberry PI 3 device (that I've now sold), so hopefully that's okay.

Thank you!

It should work, as long as it's not fake.

Your mileage will vary, apparently some cards are better than others. I've got some Sandisks that work fine, and some that don't, some unbranded ones that work fine, and some that don't. I believe ETA Prime has tested 400GB ones, but watch out for stuttering that may indicate read problems.

My 64GB Sandisk card works 100% reliably, but my 128GB one doesn't. I've seen posts recommending other brands, such as Kingston or Patriot, so if you've already got the 400GB card, nothing wrong with giving it a try! Please let us know what brand it is and how well it works. It'd be nice if someone compiled a database of recommended cards.

It's a genuine Sandisk card bought direct from Amazon. I will report back when I manage to get a console. It works great in my Pi so hopefully will be the same.

What? Amazon don't sell fake cards. Only Amazon sellers do.

That's not true, Amazon uses a shared inventory with it's sellers. Amazon is full of fake SD cards.

Yeah, but it's safe to buy EVO Selects from Amazon themselves, they're an Amazon Exclusive brand, so the inventory doesn't get shared with other sellers. Any other Amazon seller selling them is selling fakes.

I can recommend the Samsung Evo SELECT as well, I've been using the 256gb both on the odroid go advance as well as separately on an RG350 for a much longer time without issue. Its got a good speed that may help lessen stutter in emulators (Up to 100MB/S Read and 90MB/S Write Speeds) in the 128/256gb cards. The 128gb is about half the cost if the 256gb is too much. It appears the 64 and 32gb have slower write speeds. The A2 rated sandisk extreme is rated Up to 160MB/s read speeds and Up to 90MB/s write speeds.

How to migrate to a bigger card size under EmuElec?

Post by ilyichzc » Thu Jun 25, 2020 2:54 pm

I have installed and configured EmuElec on my 32GB card and decided to buy a new one of 128GB. When I cloned the first card I seen the same size of 27GB on the new one. I understand, I need to extend the partition but I don't know how. Can anyone help me here?

I've personally tested a SanDisk 1TB micro SD card in the system and it resized just fine and showed up with something like 960 GB of free space after resizing, so I'd think any size card will work without issue.

microSDXC spec goes up to 2tb, although 1tb is the max available right now I think. So as long as the card is following the spec, anything up to 2tb should work.
