If you check the retroarch.cfg file you'll see that we are pointing to a web repo of compiled cores. We definitely don't have all of them for aarch64 yet so hopefully someone can help compile or if they are found somewhere and tested, we can add them to the repo.

I just like to thank you for you hard work, this version of the OS is running Scummvm like a champ. I tried all the others but this is blowing them out of the water. I'm having a great time tinkering around and increasing my Linux skills. Keep up the great work it's super appreciated. :D :D :D :D

My OGA BE would not be the same without this release.

I have been monitoring temps with /sys/devices/virtual/thermal/thermal_zone1/temp and /sys/devices/virtual/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp

It would be cool to see these on the retrolauncher.

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm trying to get daphne/dragon lair running on this.

In the es_systems.cfg file I added this bit:

Code: Select all

	<system>
		<name>daphne</name>
		<fullname>Daphne</fullname>
		<path>/roms/daphne/</path>
		<extension>.daphne .DAPHNE</extension>
		<command>performance on; /usr/bin/retroarch -L ~/.config/retroarch/cores/daphne_libretro.so %ROM%<; performance off</command>
		<platform>daphne</platform>
		<theme>daphne</theme>
	</system>
But as soon as I do that and launch emulation station it has a popup. It looks like your system config file has not been setup or is invalid.

But if I delete the above text it launches up fine again. Does anybody know why the above text makes emulation station say that and then close out? Thanks for any help.

Depends on where you added it. If your tacked it on at the end of the file it won't work. I'd put it just before the final (RetroArch) entry.

I placed it after the cps entry and before the mame2003 entry. I went ahead and placed it before the final entry just to check and it still post the error. I tried deleting another system just in case there was some kind of hard limit on systems, and that didn't help either. I'm going to try another OS next to see if its just RetoRoller that has this issue.

If anyone else has any ideas that would be awesome. Lol, I'm at a loss mainly. Having dragons lair on here would ve amazing though.

Ok I think I see it, you've got a hanging bracket next to ROM:

Code: Select all

 %ROM%<

Let me start by saying I am not at all familiar with Arch and pacman, I'm more accustomed to Debian and apt-get (and even then not an expert by any stretch of the imagination).
That being said, I cannot for the life of me understand why this is happening.
Odroid-Go Advance Black Edition here.

Twice I have re-imaged my 8GB MicroSD card with the RR3 RC, inserted it in my device without making ANY changes to the SD (so no ROM files), connected to my WiFi and then ran the update command from the main menu (which sends the sudo pacman -Syu --noconfirm command AFAICT) and both times the update gets stuck during step (23/xx) upgrading systemd

The first time it got stuck at [-C] 67%, the second at [--] 100%.

Don't know what I could possibly be doing wrong.

I actually reflashed a card yesterday and did the same thing you did except through ssh and noticed that it seemingly got stuck on systemd as well. I let it go for a few mins and it eventually completed. Just to be sure, can you let it go for 5-10 mins?

I HOPED that third time would be a "charm" and I also used SSH this time.

Unfortunately I got disconnected from the device at the exact same step:

IgnorePkg=systemd in /etc/pacman.conf should freeze it.

You seem to be pretty technical and depending on your OS expectations, you might also want to try RRVL (Void Linux) we're currently banging out. The package updates appear to be far less and it's also based on runit instead of systemd. In terms of workflow, it appears to be much faster and cleaner.

Just keep in mind that it's currently a very basic image that captures more of a Lakka-like workflow: boots to retroarch64 and uses spring_libretro to launch retroarch32 + standalone. It doesn't yet have an ES package if you're expecting that.

No Samba file shares either, you'll have to transfer ROMs via SFTP.

Well, the most basic issue I currently face is connecting to the WiFi.

Every time I edit the /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf file after booting is it overwritten with an empty file, I do not know why.
I even tried to make the file read-only and then I had a kernel panic and no boot...

Again, I have the Black Edition with the on-board WiFi, could that be the reason?

No, we have both v1.0 and v1.1 users. How are you editing the file? Is your host system Linux/BSD? There are at least 8 users currently and I think the only issues we saw are those that use Windows which are corrupting the partition.

Aha! Thanks. I had tried n64 games previously, but my image possibly doesn't have Mupen64 installed. When I click on n64 in the context menu of a .n64 file, nothing happens. This method works with gba and genesis. How can I fix this?

check the wiki on how to install mupen64 or you can join the discord if you prefer to chat with other RR users.

Thanks I've checked the wiki and ran "sudo pacman -Syu spring-libretro" but I'm not sure where to save "spring_sh_libretro.info" to. I could not find any other reference to mupen64 than what was referenced on the RetroArch page.

Also I've tried to join the discord channel by joining the server Retro Game Handhelds but the #oga-all-versions channel is not listed.

You are correct, I am using Paragon's "Linux File Systems for Windows", however this doesn't appear to be a partition corruption.

Every time I edit it, I unmount the partition and then verify it for faults, then remount it to check whether everything is still there.
It is only after I boot the SD card that the file is restored to its' empty state.

Interestingly, I initially tried to edit the file right after I created the image (and before booted from it) but I couldn't deduce the correct syntax from the file's original contents so I canceled and booted the SD.
AFTER the boot, the original file was replaced with a different one, completely different contents than before.
It is these contents that the file keeps being restored to so I wonder whether it is a script that does this.

I've seen too many Paragon issues to be of any help to you other than recommending you compare notes with other Windows users on the discord channel. If you can, try booting a Linux LiveCD and just flash the image that way and see if you have the same problems? At least that would rule out paragon.

Really enjoyed Retroroller, until i tried to start ES on it, it always asks one to configure the buttons, which is pretty annoying, since the OGA doesnt have as much buttons as ES wants you to configure. So i wasnt able to start ES on RR yet (skipping with holding a button didnt work either). Is there a workaround for that? I really enjoyed the way RR is, but due to that, i had to change to EmuELEC. Cheers!

ES has to be configured manually the first startup due to differences between v10 and v11 button layout. It should save your settings if done properly and not ask you again. We chose this method instead of making a separate image for v11 and v10 or dynamically copying configs around based on the detected system. I don't use ES personally but perhaps someone else can chime in on your issues?

I see. I would prefer the "dynamically copying configs around based on the detected system" way, so one wouldnt have to struggle around with these button configs. As I said, i wasn't able to setup the button config, because I ran out of buttons. Thanks for your response, and a huge thanks to you and your team members for the outstanding, dope work you guys made.

Thanks and sorry for your troubles. If you're ever curious in giving RR another try, I would suggest trying RRVL if you don't mind a RetroArch only experience. But I agree that for a more out-of-the-box experience, the other images might suit you better. We may add ES to RRVL but we're looking for someone that can manage the configs.

When you join you should land in the "Welcome" channel where there's a couple of items that you have to react to in order to gain access to the rest of the server. Essentially you're agreeing too the rules, so I suggest reading them. ;)

You may want to try just starting RetroArch and using the Ozone menu driver, it's a pretty nice UI. Only problem is the scraper/medatadata management isn't as good as ES, because the RetroArch guys have to worry about precise ROM matching for netplay purposes. But it can be worked around a couple of ways and it is pretty convenient to already be in RetroArch sometimes. If you do it Ido suggest that your ROMs already have good meaningful filenames (most people do).

Some feedback on regular RetroRoller, with PSP, I was playing Corpse Party and something is screwy with saves/memory cards. It let me save, but when I exited to the main menu and tried to Continue, it said it couldnt find any saves on the memory card.

I was was also unable to get m3u files to work for psx emulator in retroarch to load games with multidisks. not sure why.

Tried a Sega Saturn game, (Sakura Wars) with the provided Saturn core, fails to load completely and dumps me back at the menu.

You might have to do a bit of digging with strace or gdb. Building from source works if you install base-devel or whatever the development set of packages are (I forget off the top of my head).

Figured out how to fix the text placement for the 'times played, etc.' on the retro arena theme. Increased the length of scrolling game info text as well.

Not sure how to paste a file here, or if we're allowed. But if anyone's interested on fixing the mess and is newish like me to all this:

Login with: root/odroid (you can't fix the current theme.xml file without being root it seems).

Find the file to edit here: /etc/emulationstation/themes/RetroRama/theme.xml

Find these listing and change the values as shown:

Code: Select all

<text name="md_lbl_genre">
	<pos>0.754 0.452</pos>
</text>

	<text name="md_genre">
	<pos>0.835 0.446</pos>
	<size>0.13 0.02</size>
	</text>

<text name="md_lbl_playcount">
	<pos>0.775 0.495</pos>
</text>

	<text name="md_playcount">
	<fontPath>./_art/player.ttf</fontPath>
	<size>0.18 0.02</size>
	<pos>0.848 0.524</pos>
	<fontSize>0.0430</fontSize>
	</text>

<view name="detailed">
<text name="md_description">
	<pos>0.53 0.606</pos>
	<size>0.2 0.322</size>
	<color>232323DD</color>
	<fontPath>./_art/comic.otf</fontPath>
	<fontSize>0.03</fontSize>
	<alignment>left</alignment>
	<forceUppercase>0</forceUppercase>
	<lineSpacing>1</lineSpacing>
</text>
</view>
Hope this helps someone. (I'm sure most of you probably know how to do this, but I'm new and thought it might help others that were a bit ocd ish about the squished text.) ;)

.....

P.S.

I was able to get jazz jack rabbit and raptor working in dos box finally, yay!... Anyways does anyone know where I can find a dos retrorama theme images? Thanks.

Thank you. RetroRama is maintained by M00D Sanchez, perhaps he might welcome a PR here so any new downloads will have the fix: https://github.com/M00DY-DEV/OGA-Emulat ... /RetroRama ?

The reason why it's root is because we packaged themes up as ArchLinux packages although I think we may go back to the standard way and just let people download and stick them in ~/.emulationstation/themes where it's better managed. Not sure yet.

Also what dosbox are you using? There was a dosbox master named pcgamer who rolled by at some point and he got dosbox staging 64bit working. It should be somewhere in the RR package list although we haven't ported it to RRVL yet. Dosbox staging is a modern fork and may offer better features/performance than the standard dosbox-svn or libretro offerings.

Here's a fairly weird RR3 bug with RetroArch and Yabasanshiro for Saturn.

I downloaded the English patch for Shinning Force III (CD1) for the Sega Saturn and patched my original CD with it:
http://sf3trans.shiningforcecentral.com/progress/

When I load my original cue/bin from within RetroArch, the game loads correctly. Every other game I've tried also loads correctly.
When I load the patched cue/bin from within RetroArch, the game isn't recognized and I am thrown to the BIOS CD interface instead.
If I load the patched cue/bin from within ES, the game loads correctly!!!

Since ES again loads RA, I can enter the menu and add said game to my favorites.
Once I do, I can then use the favorite's entry to load the patched game from within RetroArch successfully (but "normally" loading the cue file again results in the BIOS CD screen).

I have been able to successfully update RetroRoller and then have updated RetroArch with all the latest cores and databases.

Any idea why this might be happening?
I suspect (but don't know) that it has something to do with paths and how ES and RA access files differently but I cannot understand why only the patched cue/bin file is affected...

While we are on the subject, any idea why ES doesn't recognize/display some of my games (but RA does?)
For instance ES does not show me Cyborg Hunter (US/EU/BR) for the Sega Master System but RA both shows and loads it just fine. I know for a fact there are plenty just by reading the number of games recognized but this is the one I have identified specifically.

Is the RRVL image going to get the ncurses interface that the arch based image has? I hope so because I really like it.

Also, I have compiled a TIC-80 core. How would I go about adding that into the available cores of retroarch?

Poked around and put the core in the .config/retroarch/cores/ folder and it works! TIC-80 games on my Go Advance, nice!

Due to popular request I'll probably add RL2 to RRVL. For the core, can you provide a link to it so we can add it? Alternatively, you can post it in our discord channel. Thanks

The core I'm currently using:

Do you know where I can find core downloads specific for the oga?

We've added links to the core repos (32bit and 64bit) in the RRVL wiki, you can try checking there. Unfortunately, the RetroArch team doesn't have a aarch64 buildbot setup yet so for now we're compiling these cores on our own.

This might be a silly question but... I've been finding myself using RA more and ES less, is there a way to "update" the normal RR into the Void without re-imaging the SD and losing all the work I've done thus far copying files over and customizing?

That depends on your skill level. If you move your roms to a separate partition then you can flash the first 2 partitions over and you'll be good. Otherwise, it may be easier to just re-image. Before doing so, just backup all of your home dir so you can restore what you want. Another option is to use fsarchiver or mount both partitions are copy the files over using cp or rsync, etc...
