N2 Corelec no HDMI

Post by luminart » Thu Jun 18, 2020 11:21 pm

Hello, I have been using the N2 as my main media device since Feb 2020. All okay running Corelec on emmc. On reboot today, HDMI black screen (no boot screen visible). Tested on Dell monitor and Samsung TV with multiple HDMI cables. I am able to SSH in to the box - Coreelec folders visible on PC. Not very familiar with Ubuntu, so not sure if this is a software or hardware issue. Could you point me in the right direction for tests to run. I was able to get this info using the dispinfo command http://ix.io/2pv3

Thanks, L

Can you power off the N2 then move the boot select switch to the SPI position, plug the device back in and let me know if the the petitboot menu or hardkernel boot screen comes up?

I did try changing the boot switch selection. No petiboot menu or HK boot screen. My monitor goes to black screen, then displays a no signal message.

It is worth to try Android OS image to narrow down root causes.

Hi, thanks for your inputs cdu13a and odroid. I got the following EDID info. I don't have access to a meter currently, so unable to check resistance values on HDMI block.

I loaded Android OS on an SD card - still blank screen. I'm not sure if the OS is loading.

Would trying to access the Corelec setup via remote desktop access be an option to see what is going on. I have written to the local distributor, not sure if they are working given the current conditions.

If the HDMI connector or circuit is faulty, is there some way for me to get screen access so I can at least repurpose this box in to a server or audio device without head end...

I think the HDMI block on the board could be damaged by uncertain electrical shock.
Please contact the distributor with a URL link of this thread. Each distributors have different warranty period though.

Thanks for your input. Not sure what you mean by 'uncertain electric shock' - I am using a recommended power supply from the same distributor. I have contacted the distributor - lets see how it goes.

Can anyone suggest possible projects (not too intensive - linux noob) that I can run with my N2 that has no HDMI output. I'm going to try a NAS or media server project, but want help with any other interesting suggestions. Thanks!

I run one of my N2 as a NAS with Armbian and OpenMediaVault. I use it as Network storage, Logitec Squeezebox Server (LMS), Pihole, Webdav.
This doesn't require HDMI output. It runs very stable and pretty fast.

If you have a TV or monitor that has composite connection you can use the AV connector on front of your N2 to get audio and video

What AV connector? There's only audio out and maybe there is a pin that can do composite, but I don't think it's routed to any connector.
