DDR4 DIMM pairing

Post by robroy » Sat Jun 20, 2020 12:57 am

Do the DIMMs need to be installed in pairs or does the board support a single DIMM? If so, do they need to match in capacity, or can an 8GB be installed next to a 16GB?

You can run with only a dimm, and you should be able to mix different size dimms, but if you use identical dimms, you get a memory speed boost.

You will have 15~20% of speed boost if you install two identical SO-DIMM modules.
