New Odroid H2 Plus?

Post by Ellicott » Fri May 22, 2020 5:04 am

Hi odroid,

Do you happen to know what features new Odroid H2 Plus will be added, 5G ethernet speed? Based on your information, the new Odroid H2 Plus will be released on 6/6. Do you know when it will be for sale on ameriDroid? Please inform us if the price increase.

Thank you,

It's a new H2 revision with minor changes (an extra nvme screw, new bios), but the same gb ethernet ports. There was a post by odroid on a different thread.

It does not sounds real.

1) Intel SoC used in H2 has 6 PCIe 2.0 lines, 4 of them are used for storage and only two are dedicated for two ethernets. One lane is insufficient for 5 Gbit ethernet. Two is sufficient but only for one ethernet.
2) Hardkernel uses Realtek NICs and Realtek still offers only 2.5G ethernet as I know.

@Ellicott - If anyone from ameriDroid said that, they were incorrect. We don't know about any new models or features.

This information is (now) on the H2 product page :
From June 2019, Rev-B board will be shipped. The improvements are as below;

– CLK-REQ signal pull resistor is added to support a PCIe-to-SATA bridge board
– 12V SATA power source improvement for high power HDDs.
– Add a M.2 screw for NVMe storage installation
– Preinstalled the latest BIOS 1.05.

June 2019, though, not 2020. (And 1.05 isn’t the latest BIOS.) That text has been there for a while from what I remember.

I wish someone would stop making new schematics for these imaginary models, from Odroid Wiki:

3 2019/12/15 Rev H2+
- The Peripheral Expansion Header became 20pin to 24 pin by adding HMD-CEC, 5VA+, D+, D-
- Change 1G to 2.5G LAN
- Fix SATA 12V run power management bug

But cec was suppose to be expensive - and since it exposes pins, it may require an adapter/addon board.

Even if it needs an external attachment it still is nice, this was one of the shortcomings for a lot of those looking to use the H2 as a media center.

I know there is the USB CEC adapter by pulse eight but that isn't a very elegant solution.

I'm guessing it will use something like this:

Odroid maybe provide some adapter when it will be released like they are seling SATA cables and other goodies for H2. There are also new USB 2.0 port provided using GPIO header (pins D+ and D-) which will also require adapter to standard connector if you want to use it as standard connector.

That was leaked unintentionally.
We will officially announce it two or three weeks later.
Until that time frame, I'll not reply to this thread. Please be patient (silently).

It's interesting to know about more USB ports, as I think there is a lot of people having USB peripherals; mouse, keyb., printer, scanner, 4G router, USB memory sticks, external USB disks,... and they are forced to use ugly USB hubs.

I just want one usb-c port to power the device instead of yet another weird adaptor with a barrel connector. I've already got a tangled mess of those collecting dust in my closet. 20V/3A should work just fine so dunno what the problem is.

Specifications page on Wiki was updated with another details for new revision. The most important note is that CPU has changed from J4105 to J4115, some details about changed bulk convertor chip and exapnsion connector and thinks we already knows (USB exposed using exapnsion port and RTL8111 -> RTL8125).

There are also photos of new Odroid H2, that means it already physicaly exists.

Hope somebody won't get slapped on their wrist for this :)
I know @crashoverride was asking for a faster CPU (J5005): viewtopic.php?t=33036, maybe he'll be happy with the new one...
Hope the "Rev B" sticker is still visible with the RAM plugged in. Also, hope revision is visible via software (lshw & friends).

It is so hard now to decide go ahead and buy on next available of H2 end of this June or waiting for next generation :(

My main purpose is installed with Ubuntu, use Kodi, Jellyfin (transcoding), JDownloader, Torrents and misc...
HMD-CEC is a big plus for my remote :D

Is the J4115 any faster? The few runs on geekbench look about the same.

No it is proablby the same as J4105 but with base clock increased. But it is still not listed in Intel Ark so we can't judge at all now.

You are correct. I'm playing counting game now: buy, wait, buy, wait.... :D
What I'm worry is if I buy it now, next month they release new version... then will be a such regret. Because at least CEC is valuable one for my entertainment purpose.
If they won't release it until next year, then easy, buy it now.

I doubt they will release a new x86 version this year. They already made a new board (c4) and two new revisions of existing boards (goabe, h2+). But I've been proven wrong before and don't have inside information, so who knows?

Above the first sighting of the H2+ is dated "2019/12/15 Rev B+(H2+)", so half a year before release, modification of an established product.

Looking at the C4 schematics https://wiki.odroid.com/_media/odroid-c ... rev1.0.pdf the oldest entry is "v0.1 2019.05.20 The first revision" - so it took about a year from first revision to market availability.

Whatever Odroid is releasing 2021 - they are probably already working hard at it... ;-)

You must remember that lot of that time is spend when device is undergoing certifications like CE, FCC, ... I gues that on 2019/12/15 they had done schematics maybe board design and maybe they had working prototype. Since that moment they was testing it and prepare everything for cerification followed by manufacturing and distributing final product to reseller. I gues that for H2+ is manufacturing/distribution phase now.
