For those who are not familiar with scrot, it's a screenshot utility.

It's not slang, it's the medical term. Comes from the latin scrotum.

I've been using scrot for ~10 years now and all my work screenshots that I attach to email have the word 'scrot' in them. I have a folder full of 'scrot' files that is a great conversation starter during the occasional webex screen sharing... "why does this guy want to show us his testicle picture collection?" Image

      totally agree, not only that but you can also instantly manipulate the picture while taking it.
      having a 1080p Desktop, but want a smaller picture? define any format you want, bmp, gif, png, jpg, etc. does it all automatically.

      Code: Select all

      import -w root -resize 50% desktop.png
      ImageMagick also comes with the most useful tool ever called "convert" that allows you to manipulate pictures on command line, very useful for scripts, etc.

      Code: Select all

      convert desktop.png -resize 320x240 desktop-small.jpg
