N2, C4 does not render FullHD 1920x1080 px

Post by Valts » Thu May 21, 2020 11:23 pm

Hello Ladies, Sirs @ HardKernel,

Recently we became happy N2 and C4 owners.

Everything is excellent except ... we encountered problem – none of both devices does render FHD = 1920 x 1080 px.

Please refer to the attached 3 screen photos of the FullHD monitor IIYAMA T2454MSC screen – with BBC.com, NAVER.com, and Screenresolution.org .
Please note how distorted – enlargened are websites. Please note the very strange actual resolution ODROID N2 is producing measured on Screenresolution.org website = 1506 x 848 – marked with red.

Exactly the same results we got on all our FullHD (1920x1080) monitors – Philips, Samsung, LG, Dell – just to name a few.

On all cases Settings of ODROID : Display : Resolution is set to 1080p@60Hz. Still for some reason ODROID N2 does not render this resolution.

Why? Where is the problem? How can we repair it?

We looked through the Forums here, still did not found any info about it.

Thank You very much for Your kind help in advance.

Looking forward to an info from You,
With my very best regards,

Valts from Latvia

Can you try to capture the screen by pressing the icon "Camera" at the bottom and check if the image size is 1920x1080? Also can you also check the display info by pressing an OSD menu on your display if it's 1920x1080? I am not sure how the website checks the display resolution, maybe Android on ODROID would not provide proper information to the site although the practical screen is 1920x1080.

Thank You Tobetter,

Yes, exactly – please refer to the one more screen photo with OSD open – it shows that monitor physically have 1920x1080 px.
The same time we see that actually rendered resolution is 1506x848 px.
Where is the problem? How can we solve it?
Thank You very much for Your help.

Looking forward to an info from You,
With my very best regards,

Valts

I strongly doubt it's really 1506x848, that's why I am asking you to capture the screen with the camera icon. It saves the screen as an image file of your current screen and you should check if it's 1506x848 or 1920x1080.

Thank You Tobetter,

Yes, of course, when we capture screenshot and count the pixels it is 1920x1080 because it is monitor physical resolution. Sure.

The problem is that N2 does not render webcontent 1:1 = pixel to pixel – like desktop machines do.
It is behaving somewhat like smartphone – enlargening content to fit into 1506x848 pixels and then spreading these 1506x848 pixels over the 1920x1080 – this is the problem.

Thank You very much for Your help.

Looking forward to an info from You,

Valts

This is not N2 hardware/software related problem. On my Laptop with 4k screen i get 1536 x 864. So this value is what Blink report to web server. Maybe it also depends dpi settings. Change your dpi to 160 and try again.

*EDIT*
Yes, it depends DPI settings.

On lineage i change default DPI to 160 on non ATV builds. Which means 1:1 scale. On HK AOSP ROM it 240 by default.
