Where will this go on sale for a single unit?

Aliiexpress, ebay, HardKernal's own site?

Cheers

Fantastic news !!! but not that great for the people who buy it 2 months ago, like me :D

It would be great if you can sell an upgrade for the first version buyers so we don´t need to buy a hole new kit !!!!

By the way, I´m testing EmuElec 3.5 and gameplay in Sega Dreamcast Games, and next i will try N64 and Atomiswave/naomi

you can check the videos with Sega Dreamcast games tests I upload in youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCj8eBQ ... QVJBGh2Qkw

A kit will require drilling holes in the pcb, case and soldering buttons and wifi (though that should be easy to solder)
Painting the pcb black, on the other hand will be more difficult

Will we require separate base images each pointing to a separate dtb or is there a mechanism to select the appropriate dtb in boot.ini?

OK what about us silly fucks that bought the FIRST less capable one? Not so cool dudes. A rebate for us early adopters should be provided if we get the new one. First batch pretty good, second batch what we actually wanted. Did I pay you guys to be your beta tester? Realy not cool at all. #WereIsMydiscount. Thanks. I want the shoulder buttons the most but I went an bought the WIFI module just recently because I hate having that Linux file system software to just DO anything with it.

Oh, come on... You bought a device that performed as advertised. It's not a software upgrade, so you can expect free upgrades. Hardware, design/engineering, shipping all cost money.
If you want the perfect system - you'll never get it because a better system is always around the corner. On the other hand being an early adopter has its risks.
Hopefully HK can sell the extra parts as a spare parts kit for tinkerers to upgrade their units.

I do want that wireless module, I can live without the extra buttons

If you want to upgrade you can sell your OGA right now for what you paid for it and order the new when it comes out.

If I read the markings correctly the module is ESP-WROOM-32, so there should be both WiFi and Bluetooth, no?
The module is a ESP-WROOM-S2 (aka ESP8266).

The Reference Image includes a new boot.ini file that queries the hardware revision and loads the appropriate dtb. There will be a single image compatible with both hwrev1.0 and hwrev1.1 systems.

Did you say the same thing to your cell phone manufacturer? Mine comes out with a new better one every year too. Incremental updates are much easier than monumental updates.

HardKernel does sell replacement parts for GO-Advance.
https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/board-f ... o-advance/
https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/cases-b ... o-advance/

Presumably (not confirmed!), they will also sell replacement parts for GO-Advance BE.

Looking at the case/buttons and board it looks to be about $43 to upgrade, and you could build another OGA with the original board for about $29 in parts.

In other words it would be better to just sell the original and upgrade to the BE.

I would like a unit.

I would like to help add software BLE and WiFi hotspot support (built-in ESP32 co-processor).

The black one might also be a dust and smudge magnet though...have to weigh it up.

As @rooted mentioned, the module is ESP-WROOM-S2 with ESP8266 chipset.
There is no BLE functionality.

We've implemented WIFI AP mode as well with this module,
so, one OGA can be a WIFI host that means we can enjoy more games for multiplayers (using like netplay), I think.
I hope many game experts can help how to set-up it. ;)

Just a shot in the dark here....There's no way you can enable the OTG portion of the dwc2 chip and route it to the usb-c charger port is there? That would help with file transfers, using the OGA as a controller,....lol, these are the only two reasons I could think of so maybe not.
If I say something that sounds smart or like i know what i'm talking about....i'm faking it.

If we remove the USB host port, it must be possible.
In that case, we have to hear a lot of complains.

That would require a PCB redesign and redirecting the leads from the USB-A port to the USB-C port. Possible, but you'll get complaints of two types:

1. The people who have USB-A hardware will now need an adapter, how dare you!
2. Now I can't charge my device and have my USB thingy plugged in, how dare you!

Basically, I don't think it's a good idea ;)

Agreed, not a good idea. I do have a Type C OTG but that's irrelevant as everyone doesn't.

What day/time do I need to be online to make sure I can get in that first group to order the new version before it sells out?

It sounds like they fixed just about everything hardware-wise and still at an amazingly low price. Only thing I'd really have left to wish for on this would be it plugging into TV as an option.

So much for wondering. So at the time of the guys post, it could have been soldered in? I kind of did that suggestion to show it would be very hard to do. I had no clue it was possible.

I'm looking forward to the new version. It sounds great. My project involves downloading podcasts to a USB memory stick.

Thanks for the link to github.

Great another project I can add to "things to do while quarantined". Is there standard place for dtb sources? I tried experimenting with 64 bit Ubuntu on the raspberry pi 3b+ and I got stuck at the device tree and gave up. It all stared with trying to do build and test of an OGA app on my old pi.

I think the standard image supports it out of the box (or will support it on next release).
Perhaps a part guide + soldering instructions would be useful on the wiki for those wanting to upgrade their units...

Re: ODROID-Go Advance (OGA) next batch production plan and some news

I'm debating getting the BE and gifting the original or just soldering the WiFi myself.

Although I really could use those two additional buttons as I play a lot of fighting games and it would certainly make for easier play. I don't care about Type C charging as the barrel connector works fine.

Aliiexpress, ebay, HardKernal's own site?

Cheers
Hardkernel + distributors https://www.hardkernel.com/distributors/
I'm in the UK, and the UK distributor is so expensive compared to the retail cost. :o
I agree. Try Ameridroid.

What day/time do I need to be online to make sure I can get in that first group to order the new version before it sells out?
Once we start the production process, we will start accepting order soon.
We will post a news on this thread two weeks later probably.

We will send some engineering samples to Batocera, EmuELEC, RetroArena, RetroRoller and OGSTA OS developers on 11 May.
Thank you, looking forward to it! And congratulations, the black PCB + case looks very cool!

It sounds like they fixed just about everything hardware-wise and still at an amazingly low price. Only thing I'd really have left to wish for on this would be it plugging into TV as an option.
I haven't tried it yet but maybe a usb to hdmi will work - I think I have one laying around that I will check and see if it works

Not sure it will work - it depends a lot on the driver used. I haven't heard yet of a functional usb-hdmi dongle on any odroid board.

You need USB3 or better to drive an external display, otherwise there just isn't enough bandwidth.

While fiddling with SDIO pads I was trying figure out if I could get a ribbon cable out of the hole in case. Turns out there is an unpopulated MIPI connector and a hole for the cable. There are MIPI to HDMI/Display Port chips or adapters. EDIT I think I figured out what the big holes on either side of the connector are. Some kind of clamp to keep the cable plugged in if you pull on it by mistake.

I tried it previously with N2 and then again on GO-Advance. The N2 experience is documented somewhere in the forums. I also recall posting that (at the time) it does not work on GO-Advance. The reason was due to the Linux driver not supporting USB2. Its been several months, and I do not know if the driver situation has changed.

The MIPI pads are MIPI-CSI (camera) not MIPI-DSI (display). Its only usable as in input. The LCD panel utilizes the only MIPI-DSI port. While the RK3326 SoC supports LVDS, it can only output to MIPI-DSI or LVDS at one time. It lacks a second VOP required for dual display.

On the homepage I saw crashoverride made a reply and I knew I was in trouble. He's pitching a no hitter to me. :-)
