ODROID-C4 is same as other SBCs, not having a BIOS like PC. You can boot it up from SD or eMMC, PXE.
WoA is a huge challenge, I think.

Neither the announcement forum post, nor the shop info page, nor the C4 Wiki pages (as far as I've looked) mention PXE?

(and the only thing I'm missing is the RTC :-/)

You could use the emmc as boot storage then use sdcard as OS or the other what around. But then it going to be more expensive then rpi4. So... -_(•,•)_-

Well...very few people ask for BOOTP/TFTP/PXE...and I've managed to support them in the stock U-boot for ODROID-C2/N2 as well. I've tested on N2 with U-boot, but not played with it for a long time since the Petitboot on ODROID-N2 can support PXE. In case if you need to run PXE on ODROID-N2 or ODROID-C4, I could help you.
FYI, TFTP use case is described in the Wiki.

Ah, I missed the TFTP page, but then it is microSD -> uboot -> PXE, thank you for clarification :-)

Correct.
FYI, Not like other ODROID boards, ODROID-N2 has Petitboot on SPI flash memory and since the version 20200224, PXE boot is enabled on it. So you can run without SD or eMMC if you set up PXE environment on your local network, N2 can boot up.

I'm thinking out loud here, but if I'm not mistaking C4 has SPI pins and could have an external SPI memory connected, right? Would the cpu bootcode boot from it? That way you could avoid using a (maybe) more expensive sd card as boot device...

Nope. The HW SPI port on the 40pin GPIO header doesn't support the SPI flash memory boot.

The datasheet shows it is supported within the S905X3 SoC
Supports serial 1, 2 or 4-bit NOR Flash via SPI interface

Really interesting. the community for pi4 they working on a UEFI bios implementation. For now it's a emulation if I understand it right. But the source from this project is open sorce community started from intel. In the beginning mentioned Tiano Core UEFI

They try to build something that should work on every device as possible. Maybe it Something @odroid is interested in. ;)
