How's the corona virus situation in Korea now?
Hello,
I know it is not a nice topic, but how is the Corona virus situation currently in your region? Is it affecting the business of Hardkernel ? I hope not !
According to https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps ... 7b48e9ecf6 , South Korea is dealing with the situation 7 times better than Italy!
Let us know how you are doing!

Re: How's the corona virus situation in Korea now?
We've tested near 200,000 people while our population is just over 50 million.
The number of daily infected people seems to be decreasing obviously. But who knows the future?
We are still shipping over 400~500 ODROID boards everyday and our business seems to be fine so far.
But it is very hard to predict when we have no inventory and when we can resume the production of the OGA and the H2 board at this moment.
We are importing several components (mechanical parts, connectors and battery) from China.
There is no clear prediction when their factory will normalize.
So I think this IT manufacturing industry is expected to slump significantly for at least several months.

Are schools still open? Here, in Romania they are closing chools for the next 2-6 weeks. Some it companies are enforcing "work from home" policies (which I wouldn't mind, except the kids are in the way!)... This will force a lot of people to stay home with the kids and I expect we'll see worldwide economic slowdown/recession in the second half of the year. Hopefully it prevented a bigger crash, and won't take so long to recover.
Anyway, stay safe!

Yes, here in Austria they are closing schools and universities too, despite we "only" have around 180 cases so far!
All large events are going to be cancelled! Opera is closed (no, not the web browser, hehe)! etc.etc.

Exactly the same situation takes place in Poland, there are currently 25 people infected (officially).

From the reddit thread:

South Koreans play video games alone all day, while Italians are constantly kissing and fondling each other.
Stereotypes explain everything.

The socially awkward shall inherit the earth. And humanity will die off because of a lack of baby-making...

I wonder what that generation will be called... Something catchier than "the covid-19 generation" I hope...

No.. I don't think so since baby-making with isolated face masks must be seriously painful.
Anyway, please take care of your health and keep following your government instructions.

Indeed, need a better name.
Unfortunately it's getting pretty bad here in the states, especially in New York City. There are over 15,000 cases in the city and 25,000 for the state. This is almost 50% of the COVID-19 cases in the US in a single small state.
@odroid I was referring to those not infected doing voluntary quarantines, here in the states we don't have masks and such equipment. There is a shortage and you can't get them.

I'm making my own diy-better-than-nothing masks from paper napkins, rubber bands and a stapler. Not as good looking, but offers a false sense of security...
Tomorrow morning we're expecting the military to start rolling in and enforce the rules.
Can you work remotely, at least?
Stay safe!

Around here (Ontario Canada) the Government is not taking it seriously by doing things like classifying alcohol stores as essential services.
Some people order everything online, wash it, and don't leave the house. Others are acting like spreading it is their job.

There is also a shortage of toilet paper and other personal hygiene products! For this reason, I expect the birthrate to decline followed by a significant rise in divorce and breakups when the quarantines are over.

I am certain divorce rates will go up. I expect the highest rates will be in younger couples... Also services like tinder will explode once the lockdown ends.
But even if people divorce, they will often make a baby first to try to patch their relationship...

They are!

Here in Italy, well, you know, it's pretty bad.
I'm in Rome and the numbers are bad enough, but in northern Italy... it's an apocalypse.
We have waited too long before locking down.
Hope others won't follow our missteps.
Best of luck to anyone.

Are schools despite everything open? Here, in Romania, they are shutting schools for the following 2 a month and a half. A few organizations are authorizing "telecommute" approaches (which I wouldn't see any problems, aside from the children are in the way!)... This will constrain many individuals to remain at home with the children and I expect we'll see overall financial log jam/downturn in the second 50% of the year. Ideally, it forestalled a greater accident, and won't take such a long time to recoup.

Wait, what? Where did you get that info? In Bucharest schools are open, but because of high occupancy kids are attending one week in person, one week remote.
Regarding the death of productivity - yes, it will be impacted, but:
1. most Romanians loved to slack at work anyway, so just top performers will be impacted
2. family (grandparents, aunts, older siblings) will participate more in looking over the kid at home
3. school performance will go down since kids are wired to be competitive, and can't find motivation while online...
Hopefully, by next (school) year things will improve and it won't put a long-term impact on their education. Or maybe it's an opportunity for an education system upgrade, changing it's focus from cramming information down on kid's throats to a more cooperative/project based approach, more suited to today's world...
