[resolved] how to record audio via HDMI Input

Unread post by sang0627 » Wed Mar 04, 2020 6:07 pm

I have a monitor which has two analog audio jacks, one for Audio-IN(eg. microphone) and the other for headphone.
I connect my Windows laptop to the monitor using HDMI cable and can record my voice through the monitor's Audio-IN.
In summary, "Microphone ------ Monitor ------(HDMI Cable)----- Laptop" works fine.

Unfortunately, "Microphone ------ Monitor ------(HDMI Cable)----- odroid-c2" does not record my voice.
I hear only white noise and jittering sound.
I wonder odroic-c2 supports HDMI input for audio.

As far as I know, the standard HDMI display output interface has no path of audio input.

Can you tell me your monitor brand/model name?

Well, as I mentioned in my original post, I successfully recorded my voice with this monitor connected to my laptop.
Anyway, I'm using LG 27MP77SM, as shown in http://prod.danawa.com/info/?pcode=3048090

Very weird.

Look into the standard HDMI signal description. There is no sound input path obviously.

I think a microphone in your laptop might work accidentally. :?:

Oh.. I see.
As you mentioned, my voice seems to be accidentally recorded by laptop MIC, not by monitor's AudioIN jack. :o

I should have misunderstood the usage scenario of AudioIN jack.
I thought audio input from AudioIN goes though HDMI cable as HDMI input, but it seems not.

When a PC does not have any HDMI port but only DVI interface, the monitor can be connected with HDMI cable for video data using DVI2HDMI adapter.
The AudioIN might be used as input source of monitor speaker in case of using DVI2HDMI adapter which cannot send audio data.

Thank you @odroid
