Updated es_systems.cfg - If you are missing roms, see here!

Post by deerwings » Sat Feb 08, 2020 9:22 am

*Updated 02/18/2020 10:09 AM EST

Note: There may be a weird issue with special characters being copied over. I recommend making sure you test this with notepad++ if you're using Windows to make sure there aren't any special characters throughout this before sticking it in your .emulationstation folder or you might end up with an invalid es_system.cfg. I just fixed it today so it SHOULD be fine.

Because I was an idiot and completely forgot to do this and was reminded in another thread, here is a 'fixed' version of es_systems.cfg for Emulationstation for the Odroid-Go Advance. It's based on other configurations that should work just fine in this. No new emulators have been added, just correcting the extensions the emulators can read.

All you need to do is place this in your /home/odroid/.emulationstation/es_systems.cfg

Code: Select all

* Edit Forgot to add the extensions for the Atari 7800.
* Updated to add Megadrive for our Non-North American friends! As well as /ports. More cores will be updated in the future. Fixed entry.
* Edit: Fixed the Megadrive section. I copied it from a Retropie install and forgot to fix the command. Should work now.
* Edit: Fixed PCEngine and TG 16 sections. I keep forgetting I'm in North America and we never got the PC Engine up here

after throwing the text above and running games to psx, information pops up:
PSX
Additional File(s) are required for operation:
/opt/libretro/pcsx_rearmed/SCPH1001.bin
why not working?

Fixed the Megadrive section. Had copied some things over from the Retropie and forgot to change the command.

Will updating this get the Megadrive games to launch?

If you use the version currently now available in the OP, it should. The Megadrive uses the same command as the Genesis, and I accidentally had included the wrong command. I've updated it to contain the correct command so it should work.

This one was hard to change since you can't directly access es_config.cfg because of privileges. I ended up having to copy the entire code and save it into a brand new file called es_conig.cfg and saving it in my /roms/ directory using WinSCP. After this I launched PuTTy and logged into the device and navigated to /etc/emulationstation and renamed the original file es_config.bak with sudo, and also used sudo to move the new es_config.cfg to /etc/emulationstation and after that I rebooted the entire device and it seems to have helped a few emulators, but for some reason now I have a few emulators that don't work at all (like the SNES and Genesis/MD emulators) which I don't quite understand. I went ahead and decompressed all of my games and copied them over to the right directories within /roms/ but still have issues with most of them loading up properly. It seems the one emulator that has always ran without fail is the GBA emulator since I can always fire up a GBA ROM and play any game I want without any issues. I do wish there were more options such as save-states and other adjustments, but I know that will come with time and a few revisions of the firmware. Quite happy with my device, and according to sysbench is actually outperforms the CM3L+ module so as far as I know it's one of the most powerful handheld emulation devices that's manufactured to date (besides the rare one running the Snapdragon 8xx processor that nobody can ever find).

It's called es_systems.cfg not es_config.cfg.

create a new file, called es_systems.cfg and place in /home/odroid/.emulationstation

You should have two config files in that directory: es_settings.cfg AND es_systems.cfg

Updated es_systems.cfg to include PcEngine and Turbografix 16 sections (Same device, different theme with their own directories).

I keep forgetting that I'm in North America, so we have some different versions. Sega Genesis instead of Megadrive, TG16 instead of PcEngine, Emulationstation has themes for both but typically a lot of es_systems.cfg sometimes omit one or the other, even if the directories exist in an emulator. I went nuts for days trying to figure out why Genesis wouldn't show up until I learned about the es_systems.cfg file back in the day and what it actually did. Now it's the first thing I look at when stuff doesn't work right.

Did some one know if its possible to create a INPUT Config file for each System?
So I can configure each system by its own.

Yeah, that's what I meant to type but I was multitasking when writing that post and ended up using the wrong word. I couldn't figure out the problem either way.

You can use Retroarch with the RGUI setting to modify your game/core controls the way you want them and then save them as a core/game override and RA will automatically load them. I have some issues with some other settings sticking but that one definitely does. I've remapped B and A to Y and B for more comfortable Gameboy/GBA emulation and it works beautifully.

Also, this only works on Retroarch-based systems. The reference image does not have Retroarch in it.

Try changing the path in es_systems.cfg and add a / after the directory name

Code: Select all

<path>/roms/megadrive/</path>
I'll look at it again when I get home, last I checked it should be working but I'll double check. I'll grab the original configuration and double check it as well.

Hi deerwings, managed to get it working, I believe I had a typo somewhere as copied and pasted from your file and it now boots as it should. Thanks for your reply and great work with the config file.

Last thing for me to try and sort is the turbo grafx theme as both show the same image. Pretty sure I know how to rectify it, got the games playing in full screen today to, so once the theme is sorted, it’s time to scrape, and then I’m content until a further update to the base image is available hopefully with more emulators and systems support

Megadrive still not working
Try changing the path in es_systems.cfg and add a / after the directory name

Code: Select all

<path>/roms/megadrive/</path>
I'll look at it again when I get home, last I checked it should be working but I'll double check. I'll grab the original configuration and double check it as well.

I'll run through some checks tonight and see how they show up. When you say the Turbografix and the PC ENgine themes show the same image? They should be different, but it may be theme related.

I think it is theme related, the simple theme only has one folder named pc engine and it appears both the rom folders for pc engine and CD both point to it on the config file. I’m thinking of duplicating the whole theme folder and renaming it, inserting another image and then editing the config to have it point to the newly created folder.

What I want to achieve is a turbo grafx option and a turbo grafx CD option on the home menu, currently both show the same image of turbografx and it is confusing to differentiate which are which. I then plan to have sub folders within them for the pc engine released games
