Have you been able to run Dreamcast?
I already had flycast (libretro) running on my ODROID Go Advance, but performance was not the best.
Around 40 FPS only. It was playable though, was playing Border Down the sound was very bad but the gameplay was not too bad actually.
But it was also not running on an optimized build so I guess a little bit more performance is possible.
Awesome!

Which os did you use for it? I'm having issues for some reason on batocera. It's probably me lol.

any pad is compatible with batocera. it includes wiimotes, ps3, ps4, xbox 360, xbox one, switch, usb or bluetooth ; in fact i know no pad not working with batocera.

Are you guys planning on implementing bicubic scaling like the reference image has? The emulators look fairly blurry in comparison since the pixels don't align correctly on the display.

thanks a lot for this report.
you can add :
* kodi : not yet working correctly
* dosbox : portrait mode => fixed yesterday and it should be ok in the last beta image
* scummvm : portrait mode. should i fix this one for this board ?

for others:
* pcfx : i will disable it while we disable it already for a lot of boards because of performances
*Dreamcast => fixed in the last image. performances are not good for virtua tennis (similar to rpi3). i don't know if some games are playable.
* amiga : should really fix it or disable it for this board while it requires a keyboard to play ? tell me.
* apple II : should really fix it or disable it for this board while it requires a keyboard to play ? tell me.
*Neogeo works on my side. check your bios.

For others, i will check :
*Atari 800 fails to start blue screen with noise
*C64 resets back to home screen
*Daphine in portrait mode & unable to reset to main menu
*NeogeoCD fails to start returns to home screen
*SegaCD garbled sound and after a few seconds playing restarts to home screen.
* NeogeoCD => it is often bios issues, i will check.

when it fails, check the file : /userdata/system/logs/es_stdout.log and es_stderr.log for the error.

my current list of non working or to check or to disable :
- kodi
- scummvm
- Atari 800
- c64
- Daphine
- NeogeoCD
- SegaCD

via the interface, this is normal while it is not plugged on beta channel.
in case network doesn't work, you can simply :

1) download https://batocera.org/upgrades/odroidgoa ... oot.tar.xz on your computer
2) unzip boot.tar.xz on the batocera partition (fat32 boot partition)

i've just tested, only side, the upgrade works:

# batocera-upgrade https://batocera.org/upgrades/odroidgoa/beta/last
starting the upgrade...
url: https://batocera.org/upgrades/odroidgoa ... oot.tar.xz
need to download 854mB

@kamots : question not understood. not that the camera does an effect to the image, this is not how it looks at the end.

I've installed your firmware on my device and the emulators are not using proper scaling to the screen. That is why I am asking if it is a planned change or not :)

@nadenislamarre

Thank you for the porting batocera on GO-Advance.
But in the latest uboot, if there are no kernel and dtb in the root of FAT GO-Advance consider it an error.
https://github.com/hardkernel/u-boot/bl ... #L122-L133

Can you duplicate both kernel and dtb to the root folder of FAT in the next batocera image?
The FAT partition will be like this structure.

Code: Select all

BATOCERA/
    boot/
        batocera
        linux
        rk3326-odroidgo2-linux.dtb
        uInitrd
    batocera-boot.conf
    boot.ini
    Image
    rk3326-odroidgo2-linux.dtb

Hi everyone,
I'm the Amiberry developer, just got my Go Advance today and I was testing things around with a few different distros (including Batocera).
I noticed the issue with the incorrect rotation, so I'll be looking into using libgo2 for this target specifically, to fix that (and get the best performance hopefully).

While looking at your github repo, I also noticed a few patches you're using when building Amiberry.
I've updated a few things so some might not be needed anymore (e.g. the "003-amiberry-rk3326.patch" and maybe "001-amiberry-sdl2.patch" as well). I'll check about implementing something regarding the "002-amiberry-core.patch" as well, though I'm not sure naming the parameter "core" would be the best choice. Perhaps "model" or similar, we'll see.

If anyone would like to assist with the effort, pull requests are always welcome! :)

@midwan
Hi, thanks you to join us on this thread. and very pleased to meet you.
i tried quickly to rotate the image without success in a first try, but it should be quite easy.
I don't think to use libgo2. maybe i'm won't, but i've not understood why to use it.
First, it is only for 2d games as far as i've understood, and 2d games have already very good performance.
the other point is that it's very specific to odroid, while the rotation issues occurs for other people building their own boards when they need to rotate the physical screen.
so i prefer to take time to patch emulator to add a rotation option.
Nice, thanks if you can apply the patches upstream. We rarely send patches upstream while it is often complicated procedurally. I mean, each project has its rules, and to respect them, it requires some times, and i took a long time to try to apply patches upstream without success. on the counter side, some people like you find our patches and apply them (eventually by modifying them), and this is very nice. thanks a lot.
I don't know if you plan to add a rotation option (like some emulators already have). if not, i will try something.

yes, sorry, i'm occupied on other part of the batocera project at the same time. Hardkernel send us other boards, thus, more people should work on our side on the odroid go advance and as you notice, one of us is working on the interface.
what would be the priorities in your mind ? i mean, for me, some emulators, mainly those requiring a keyboard are not very usefull on a odroidgoa.

I don't know if you plan to add a rotation option (like some emulators already have). if not, i will try something.

>>> Hi i just tested the latest release here i see UI improvements like readable text now but not none of the previous bugs for some cores have not been fixed so my bug report stands thanks
yes, sorry, i'm occupied on other part of the batocera project at the same time. Hardkernel send us other boards, thus, more people should work on our side on the odroid go advance and as you notice, one of us is working on the interface.
what would be the priorities in your mind ? i mean, for me, some emulators, mainly those requiring a keyboard are not very usefull on a odroidgoa.
Would it be possible the emulators that require a keyboard the user can simply plug in a USB keyboard or Bluetooth keyboard to send the keyboard commands?

@jutleys
Regarding Amiberry, it uses SDL2 so of course any keyboards and game controllers detected by the system can be used. I have a USB hub connected here, with a keyboard, mouse and Wifi dongle and they all work just fine. :)
But of course I need to adapt Amiberry with more sensible defaults for this board, since the default key for entering the GUI is F12 (which doesn't exist without a keyboard). We could map it to one of the other F-keys available (F1-F6).

But also regarding Amiberry, it doesn't really "require" a keyboard if all you want to do is play games.
It's designed to be used with just a game controller as well - The GUI has full support for navigating with the game controller, and if you're launching games they don't usually need any keyboard input.
You can even map the mouse to an analog stick, to make things easier.

libgo2 uses the hardware bitblit (RGA2) engine for scaling and rotation and offers two main benefits. 1) It offers 'cleaner'[1] image scaling since it uses a bicubic hermite filter and 2) it frees both the CPU and GPU to work on behalf of the emulator instead of wasting time on the display.

I have not benchmarked libgo2 against SDL.

The simplest option would be to add libgo2 support to RetroArch. This would automatically add scaling and rotation to all libretro cores.

[1] GPU scaling typically uses bilinear or nearest-neighbor filtering. The wikipedia link illustrates the difference in sampling.

@nadenislamarre is SSH working for you? or in any case is downloading themes/bezels working for you? I am trying to enable SSH on my build but I get an error

Code: Select all

ssh 192.168.1.88
The authenticity of host '192.168.1.88 (192.168.1.88)' can't be established.
ECDSA key fingerprint is SHA256:PRn8buZ6sgyZ7ecOS8lINhSXSn7/zuRHpBrxd99caOk.
Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no/[fingerprint])? yes
Warning: Permanently added '192.168.1.88' (ECDSA) to the list of known hosts.
ssh_dispatch_run_fatal: Connection to 192.168.1.88 port 22: incorrect signature
EmuELEC:~ #
I get the same error with Batocera and this also happens with CURL, git, wget, or anything that uses cipher through OpenSSL

Code: Select all

curl https://www.wikipedia.com
curl: (35) error:04091068:rsa routines:int_rsa_verify:bad signature
and sometimes its

Code: Select all

curl https://github.com
curl: (35) error:1408F119:SSL routines:ssl3_get_record:decryption failed or bad record mac
Since I could not get a terminal with Batocera either by SSH or uart, I tried downloading the themes which uses HTTPS and got an empty list, so I assume it also has the same problem.

We tried several configurations with no luck, same version of OpenSSL works fine on my other devices, except the Odroid Go Advance, are we missing something on the Kconfig?

@crashoverride any ideas on what might be wrong?

SSH works fine in the Ubuntu based reference image. This implies the issue is specific to your build.

Yes, my build and Batocera (which is why I posted it here), I could not try the ubuntu image for some reason. does the reference build use OpenSSL ?

Ok figured it out (kinda) I was using the WiFi module 5A that came with the Odroid N2, and an USB to Ethernet adapter, both of those give the problems I posted earlier, I switched to the WiFi module 0 included with the Odroid Go Advance and now everything works...

Edit: Actually I have 3 other dongles and one ethernet adapter, none of them work
MT7601U
RTL8192cu
RTL8811AU
Ethernet adapter ASIX Electronics Corp. AX88179

Only the included WiFi module 0 (RT5370) works, can anyone else test this?

RTL8811AU and RTL8188CUS worked fine when we tested on our Ubuntu minimal image last month.
