Re: LCD Display Info and Monitoring Tool + Kodi install
Apologies. I did run the -i option on the previous two versions, but they appeared identical to the original output I posted. Temps did not display there.
I have loaded v3, and LCD displays "RAID 0", but temps still display 0°C. Here is the output for -i:

Re: LCD Display Info and Monitoring Tool + Kodi install

Yes truncated, but not so easy to fix I think, the RAID controller answers to an special command with a SMART data string and I do not have documentation about this commands and how to get more data from the controller

Awesome! Don't judge me for use of cheap Seagate drives
. Easily replaceable data should one fail.

Re: LCD Display Info and Monitoring Tool + Kodi install
thanks for your awesome tool - working flawlessly except for one thing.
After I've changed the system language to german, the info for the remaining space isn't shown anymore.
Instead of the available space it only shows "Verw%"
Running 1.0.15-1 on a debian buster based installation.

Re: LCD Display Info and Monitoring Tool + Kodi install
Is there any way to put the HD temperatures where the CPU/GPU temperatures are? In my opinion the HD temperatures are much more important since just a single drive can cost double what an XU4 costs. And being a NAS I don't use the GPU at all so that information for me and likely others isn't relevant but is prominently displayed.
I have a feeling there is no way currently but maybe a feature request

That's a very good idea, although the CPU/GPU is more important to monitor because the hard disks are not getting that hot as the CPU/GPU does, but I will accept that as a feature request, maybe I made a option that you can read HDD0 HDD1 and CPU temperature as the three biggest font values and CPU usage where the HDD temperatures are now and skip GPU temperature because if you do not use a media center its not that important (like you said).
I have to think about that a little bit more

Re: LCD Display Info and Monitoring Tool + Kodi install
My drives are getting old and run warm, even with the fan on low speed all the time my drives run about 30°C when idle.
I need to upgrade them but my funds are low after the unexpected expenses I've incurred recently.
Thanks for the consideration, I really like the utility as it gives me the information I need in an easy to read format. I wish I had a simpler version on the original cloudshell, currently it runs cloudshell-nmon which is all but unreadable at any distance.

Re: LCD Display Info and Monitoring Tool + Kodi install
Isn't the original CS exposing also a framebuffer? Except for maybe a different resolution, why wouldn't the script work?
Also - reading temperatures from drives uses smart which wakes up the drives and keeps them spun-up when idle, and thus warm.
I prefer not to read smart data from my drives so that they don't wake up when idle.
30C when idle, but spun up is a great temperature, imho.

I suppose the temperature is okay but at the expense of the fan running 24/7. I'm not sure if the drives spinning down is a good thing other than for power savings.

It may depend on the drive type. Enterprise drives are better off spinning always. Green/PC drives should be idle most of the time. My main drive is a 3TB WD green that is nearing 10 years of uptime. But most of the time its been spun down.

Re: LCD Display Info and Monitoring Tool + Kodi install
My conclusion is that most of the peoples if they are using Spin-down are choosing a too small time value for the hard disks to Spin-down and so it can come that the hard disk will go in park position forward and back "200" times a day and this is of course not healthy for your HDD's. I have seen peoples configure 5 min Spin-down time ... even only when using network protocols like SMB aka NetBios aka MSBROWSE those network protocols can wake up your drive and this is what a NAS is doing most, sharing files over network.
RGThank you, no, there is no Spin-down anymore with my tool, I have read a lot about it, mostly in forums about servers from server maintainers, my conclusion are two points:
- The extra costs compared with Spin-down ON to OFF with two hard disks is negligible
- Mostly a to small Spin-down time is configured which can damage the hard disk in the long run ( On servers they setup 5 hours Spin-down time ! That is not reached very often )

LCD Display Info and Monitoring Tool + Kodi install
Cloudshell2 update.
@AreaScout
A week ago i reflashed my xu4.
1. I’ve used Debian Buster (armbian)
2. Cloudshell monitoring tool
3. Openmediavault
4. Kodi 18.2 (Your setups)
5. Compile new kernel with CEC option
It’s working fine, but I saw U have prepared kodi 18.5 with new drivera. I’m wondering if it’s worth to update to 18.5
Usualy I’m watching h265 and have bigger heatsink, temps are around 65-70 C.
What U think, will it be worth?
I know H265 on XU4 is software render.
Better would for me audio AC3/DTS passthrough, but there is nothing for XU4

Re: LCD Display Info and Monitoring Tool + Kodi install
There is a way to get AC3/DTS audio playback, but you have to stream audio from XU4 to an external source like:
- A PC with Windows or Linux running PulseAudio and installed HD able sound card and or HIFI Amplifier
- A ODROID C2 with HIFI Shield and HIFI Amplifier running PulseAudio

That url points to a webpage, not to the actual deb file. You need to get the direct download link

Re: LCD Display Info and Monitoring Tool + Kodi install
Yes that's right the download link is wrong, sorry, the fan script is not mandatory, it is just there for the first installation so that the fan is on as fast as possible or in case my tool doesn't work or crashes on reboot it's kind of a backup to have the fan running or turn it on manually with
/etc/init.d/cloudshell2-fan start
, here is the correct download link https://github.com/leeseungcheol/clouds ... _armhf.deb I will change it on the main post.RG

How do you expect him to fix this if you don't provide any information about your system, how you installed the app and so on?

Re: LCD Display Info and Monitoring Tool + Kodi install
Sorry you are right I should have copied the code, here I leave you the code that comes out when I install your accessories.
Saying it doesn't work well for the screen theme or displaying the data either goes black.
If it can be check the files and repair them, just flash OMV again and I need to install them.

If U are using kernel 5.4 it will not work any more as I know. It’s controlled by I2C and need to be implemented into boot file etc.dabarsa87 wrote:Sorry you are right I should have copied the code, here I leave you the code that comes out when I install your accessories.

Some days before 2020 year @AreaScout had compiled kernel 5.4.6 will all need .deb files, so download them install and install cloudshell-monitoring tool, then will work like U want.
P.S. Do not upgrade kernel after that. Can be that I2C will be not implemented in new kernel so fan and LCD will stop working.

You can guess three times what you are doing wrong here, I give you a small help, look closely which name the package is saved to

Secondly, the fan script is not mandatory, it's just there when something fails that you do have a chance to start the fan manually
Third, if you are on 4.14, my tool is working without any modification to the kernel or pre-load any overlay dtb file, you must do something wrong

Re: LCD Display Info and Monitoring Tool + Kodi install
Okay, I did not realize that, maybe that is because I tried to install it twice when I saw that it did not work, since what I have configured is nothing, I will flash again and the first thing I will do is install your files without updating anything to see if I They work and then I'll update everything, because this never happened to me. The first time I installed it, I also got a black screen and threw an error with the fan

Re: LCD Display Info and Monitoring Tool + Kodi install
well after flashing I installed the screen first and I managed to activate it, then I installed the fan and it failed to start because I need to install i2c-tools, with this I started again and it did not fail

It's good to make apt install -f at the end to be sure that all dependecy files are installed then reboot.

Re: LCD Display Info and Monitoring Tool + Kodi install
ok, the only bad thing is that after having everything in its place not and working well it has entered a restart loop that practically does not let me do anything, can this be solved or will i have to flash? hahaha

Re: LCD Display Info and Monitoring Tool + Kodi install
I install it on clean system and never had problem to start it.
Even I had installed @AreaScout monitoring tool I always used newest fan .deb file from odroid wiki and works like harm.
So make clean image ubuntu or debian and fallow odroid wiki for instructions.
As remember if You install odroid-cloudshell then the main screen will be cloudshell-LCD
Some time ago I modified cloudshell-monitoring script to switch to LCD refresh values on it and just after that go back to monitor.
Could be that You install it as well so HDMI output is off (black screen).
You can double check it by press Alt+Ctrl+F7 to activate hdmi output.

Re: LCD Display Info and Monitoring Tool + Kodi install
It turns out that the reboot loop was originated by an error that I got, the error is the bad gateway error causing the reboots. Disconnect the system from the power supply during the whole night and the next day everything was working normally until the time that I have configured a system restart arrived and the error and its restart loop came out again, so as I could delete this task and for the moment it works we will see if tonight around 9 at night which is the time I set the restart if it fails again, otherwise everything OK

Re: LCD Display Info and Monitoring Tool + Kodi install
I hope you can solve it !
@maki26
You can compile the latest armbian kernel for yourself, install the deb packages, boot the CS2 and then change directory to
/boot/dtb
and then apply the overlay file for the CloudShell2 LCD with swomething like this fdtoverlay -i exynos5422-odroidxu4.dtb cs2_lcd.dtbo exynos5422-odroidxu4_new.dtb
after that make a backup of the original dtb file and copy the new one over the old, that's just theory, I didn't try it for myselfRG

Re: LCD Display Info and Monitoring Tool + Kodi install
Thanks, I already solved it or at least it seems. At the moment it is working perfectly, download the backup plugin to make a backup in case it fails me, use the dd method I will not know if it will be fine, and if one day it fails because I already have a restore point estabke with all the configuration done, the problem will be to see how to restore hahaha
By the way the fan of the odroid xu4 can not configure its operation?

You can install fan tool by:
add-apt-repository ppa:kyle1117/ppa -y
apt update
apt install cloudshell2-fan
So fan is working,but as You aked about temp trigers. There was few scripts on the web. i had used this one:
Code: Select all
#!/bin/bash
REFRESH="1"
DISK_TEMP_THRESHOLD="45"
CPU_TEMP_THRESHOLD="52"
FAN_CHANGED="*"
get_disk_dev_info() {
# Pull disk info from /dev/sd*
fdisk -l > disks.txt 2>/dev/null
SATA=($(awk '/^\/dev\/sd/ {printf "%s ", $1}' disks.txt))
rm disks.txt
}
get_disk_temperature() {
for i in "${!SATA[@]}"
do
# declare and assign variable seperately to avoid masking return value
DISK_TEMP[$i]=" (IDLE)"
local t
t=$(smartctl -a "${SATA[$i]}" -d sat | grep "Temp")
if (( $? == 0 ))
then
local temp=$(echo $t | awk '{print $10}')
DISK_TEMP[$i]="$temp"
else
DISK_TEMP[$i]=""
fi
done
}
get_cpu_temperature() {
for i in {0..4}
do
_t=$(($(</sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone${i}/temp) / 1000))
CPU_TEMP[$i]="$_t"
done
}
fan_on() {
i2cset -y 1 0x60 0x05 0x00
}
fan_off() {
i2cset -y 1 0x60 0x05 0x05
}
handle_fan() {
for i in "${!DISK_TEMP[@]}"
do
if (( "${DISK_TEMP[$i]}" > "${DISK_TEMP_THRESHOLD}" ))
then
if [ "${FAN_CHANGED}" != "1" ]
then
echo "Turning fan on because disk $i has hit the threshold"
fi
FAN_CHANGED="1"
fan_on
return
fi
done
for i in "${!CPU_TEMP[@]}"
do
if (( "${CPU_TEMP[$i]}" > "${CPU_TEMP_THRESHOLD}" ))
then
if [ "${FAN_CHANGED}" != "1" ]
then
echo "Turning fan on because CPU $i has hit the threshold"
fi
FAN_CHANGED="1"
fan_on
return
fi
done
# No fuss, fan is off
if [ "${FAN_CHANGED}" != "0" ]
then
echo "All temps nominal, turning fan off"
FAN_CHANGED="0"
fi
fan_off
}
while true; do
get_disk_dev_info
get_disk_temperature
get_cpu_temperature
handle_fan
sleep ${REFRESH}
done
You can control refresh rate, CPU and HDD triger temps.
I do not remember, maybe for HDD You will need to install smartmontools as well.

Seems that you are logged in as root. If so you shouldn't use sudo! This may be the cause of your problems.

Re: LCD Display Info and Monitoring Tool + Kodi install
Yes You are right. It’s just on & off
I2Cset -y ... is to control fan function
The test of the code is to read cpu and had temps from system and extract values.
So You can set on what temp fan need to run.
Also You can set on what had temp fan should ran (You have cloudshell2?)
If HDD temps goes over 40-45deg and stays so lifetime of it shorter
